There are other factors as well but lets not kid ourselves in that this was the main sticking point amongst the very vocal minority (that all this forum is...a vocal minority)

A game in maintenance mode wouldn't of had to stop sales, wouldn't of expanded servers and data centers (which they are doing more this summer for NA/EU) they wouldn't invest in making the new player experience much smoother (ultimately making it more accessible to new people who are unsure of dipping their toes into an MMO) they wouldn't of expanded the free trial because if it was in maintenance mode what would be the point. Why update the visuals at all if its going to have the plug pulled at some point...why make an expansion if its in maintenance....there are so many questions that sort of break the logic a little bit.

But once again this goes to resource allocation....say I have 10 units to put into the game and 2 units were dedicated to the relic and its open zone...if I sat there and was like man after Endwalker we really picked up a ton of new players but a lot don't like the base game or its still too uninviting shall we take a unit from this and put it to this (example reworking dungeons, boss mechanics, duty support, trials made into solo duties and redesigned, prae and castrum rework) and maybe that will make that experience slightly better which would get us more players and revenue. You would do that even if you pissed off some of the vets...because once again not every patch caters to everyone. It sucks I know and I want more things to do and to commit more time to it but if they are utilising their FINITE resources in foundational changes and redoing things to allow more people to play the game I love so be it...but guess what and this I will put my hand up if I'm wrong in a years time...once duty support is done....one they are happy with their reworks of dungeons etc...those resources go back into other things.

I view Endwalker and its patches as them re-doing a lot of core systems in the game (PvP, Crafting/Collectibles, QoL in UI etc etc) but I get frustrations of players but sometimes cause they are so angry that focus in on things rather then step back and view a bigger picture.
I didn't say it was, I said many people felt that way. Anyways, you don't need to be reasonable or explain anything to anyone if it's causing you so much frustration. Also, it's ok to disagree.

Its more how blind people are or don't see the bigger picture and that's what forms a mob mentality. I will call out when this game has issues I have loads I dislike that the game does but some of the hills people want to die on are baffling to me haha.

I think when it comes to the bigger picture, a lot of people see all of these smaller things adding up and it frustrates them. I am one of those people. A single, seemingly insignificant stumble might not appear to be anything more than that, but it's the repeated stumbling in game design and overall quality that has been frustrating me for a while. Individually, these issues are inconsequential, but as they continue to add up, others (including myself) see a larger issue at play.

I see it as if they came out and literally showed a side by side presentation breaking down staff hours and resource allocation to prove nothing had changed in the workflow people would still moan...if we got something other than tomes people would moan for the relic if we got the zone and it was a copy of bozja people would take maybe a week to moan again...there is so much lose lose situation going on here. It doesn't help its not a new game like say New World which being 2 years old can make sweeping changes...this game is 10 years old...so many systems at play they need to work around. Bigger change won't be for some time I feel..I get your frustration though and I don't want to minimise that at all its more the people just blindly hoping on the moan/complain wagon with little to know constructive input to the debate.

It's very complicated and not something that we the players could even quantify. Because even if they replaced all of the same engineers and artists, and they all put in the same amount of hours. It could also be argued that maybe they pulled seniority over to XVI due to the complexity and deadline of a a whole ass Final Fantasy Mainline game, potentially using the same tools and underlying systems that XIV is built from.

If they weren't working on both games, it wouldn't give people the same type of ammunition. But I guess you could also say the same thing we've been saying since basically the beginning of FFXIV 1.0. "What are they doing with our money?" lol

Remember this topic also isn't all about XIV, even if it's obviously the forum for it.. It's just. Wtf is SE doing?

I won't say one way or the other. But what it doesn't do, is guarantee the wellbeing of CBU:III.

I'm probably the most hype person for XVI, so I'm super emotionally conflicted.

That is fair and to be honest you have to remember they also have a big chunk of their team doing 7.0, 16 is borderline skeleton crew now debugging and making sure the experience is polished so it won't surprise me if people have moved back over to 14 again. The thing is even if it does well or not I don't imagine them taking back up another mainline unless the board forced them to...but then Yoshi is on the board and has a lot of sway over their current golden goose and core money maker. Business Unit 1 is still occupied with FF7 remake for likely the next 3-5 years if we put it lightly so it could well fall to them again...unless another division steps up but that only leaves Unit 2 who are currently making KH4.

Im liking a lot of what 16 is showing outside of some seriously long QTE windows and a bit too modern of a UI for the setting to be really petty....and I want it to do well. The bright side is a lot of their engine work on 16 goes over to 14...its like how if you read a GDC presentation they hired 1 guy just 1...to make the physical based renderer over several years. That PBR being used in 16 is now being used in 14 well in the character examples of their visual upgrade presentation and how gold was shown.

I personally believe XVI is completely responsible for the upgrades we're getting in 7.0. It just makes so much sense, especially when you understand the pipeline upgrades XVI kept hyping for so long.

You're probably right that this whole arrangement could put Yoshi in much higher regard and maybe we'll see that trickle down.. (Okay this isn't economics)

And you know what, the project itself may even revitalize Yoshi's ability to look at new ways to play XIV. If it DOES pull a bunch of talent back to us, then maybe we'll be so much better for it. Here's to hoping, because I know I want a brighter future for XIV fans. Even if it's just better housing.. lol

(I'm also not a fan of the QTE, and Eikon battles. But mega hype for everything else.)

I think a core example I like to use is the call of duty developers...they make the same thing day in day out and the only variety they get is changing the setting of where their similar mechanics game is set. 16 allowing devs who have worked on 14 for a while to move over and vice versa back is good for the team because it allows them in my opinion I could be wrong some perspective and creativity injection. Making a single player game is wildly different to an MMO so I hope for 7.0 this rubs off in a good way.

(Nah the eikon battles can stay they look derpy but who doesn't want a kaiju wrestling match :P)

Believe me you dont know lazy...

I won't argue that the outfits being done the way they are bad...but none of you know what lazy is and don't pretend to if you never played PSO 2 NGS.... ._. that game is lazy...ported class with no difference from base, copies botw, cant craft, emotes are broke ( you buy with real money), character hair is broken ( you buy with real money), game always crashing, events always the same no matter what, weapons can't be bought must be gain through RNG or bought for 100+ million, and you keep repeating this step...people on there begging sega to do something different and sega been doing same gameplay loop for 2 years.

Believe me...you guys should be happy at least you have in game stuff to get past the mogstation people on pso2 ngs have to buy their stuff through a loot box that begs them to spend 80-300.00.

Just saying O. o I would call them greedy before lazy at least the game works and has set progress to look fun rather than be a game where people sit in lobby all day starting drama or crying about the game... oh wait thats what were doing right now.

Aplogies for the wall text in advance:

Hello, new member of the forum here, I have been reading forum threads since last year since Endwalker came out, despite the discussions and different points of view I prefer that site than twitter or Reddit, the reason why I had not created an account above is because first English is not my main language and the other is that some users express my opinions about the current state of this expansion better than me.

About PSO2 NG, I won't argue about that, the game is barebones and it's a shame what they did based on PSO2 in the process but, let's not forget that NG is an absolutely free game and, if we go for base PSO2 JP everyone could perform absolutely everything in the game, absolutely everything without spending a cent (unless you liked the fashion game, i couldn't blame you, is superior to FFXIV). PSO2 allowed me to meet wonderful people and the reason why I currently play FFXIV was because it was the end of PSO2 EP6.

If I remember correctly, someone suggested that Square could carry out surveys and polls to find out what people think about the state of the game, and another user said that it was useless; this reminds me of the situation of PSO2 and the release of its 5th expansion (EP5), if it weren't for the polls and the large number of players angry at the direction the game was taking (and the replacement of its director from someone reciclying and reciled bosses, quests, boring content, isekai themed stuff instead of sci-fi as a proper PS by someone who actually played the game) there would have been no EP5 ending and EP6 climax, which did evoke an aura of a real PSO. It's a shame that the base game that gave you over 4k hours of endless fun has become a shell of its former self. As a PSO it hurts to see one of your favorite franchise end like this.

Now, about FFXIV, where can I start? I love the story, I love the music, I love everything about the game, if you asked me which is my favorite expansion I couldn't answer you. one of the things I like to do in this game is collect relics and glam, that's where I discovered Eureka & Bozja, and I can honestly tell you (Excluding Pagos) it was one of the best experiences playing FFXIV: open world for real, people everywhere and even players that you could find every day in the same instance creating some camaraderie and friendship depending on the stage you were in your relic, working for a goal (yes, a glowy stick, it doesn't matter) it felt good, anyway really a nice experience.
