"But other games bad" is never a good defenseThe point im making is that the way people are acting like on ff14 like the game literally has nothing in it. O. o there are games that have it way worse and here we are acting like its the end of the world on this game. Sometimes its better to try bad games. Then know exactly what your talking about. I bring up NGS cause im on ship 1 and when i see the amount of people just zone out not doing UQ, just lazing about not even doing dailies cause they are bored and starve for content.
I'm sick of the crowd that uses "b-but WoW! b-but [other game/MMO the poster has played]!" to deflect any criticism of XIV. I don't care that people who play those games might have it worse. I'm not playing those games or paying for them, I'm playing and paying for this one. I really could not care less that people had it worse in other games. That's completely irrelevant to my current criticisms of what is going on in this game right now.
I never understood the, oh it’s just worse over there so that’s an excellent reason to settle for less here. It doesn’t need to be this way. Great games don’t settle, and they compete against themselves when the competition is insufficient.I'm sick of the crowd that uses "b-but WoW! b-but [other game/MMO the poster has played]!" to deflect any criticism of XIV. But it shows me how you guys see glass half full. I talk to people on pso2 ngs who play ff14 and were all confused at what you guys are complaining about mind you. Im sure we all have played worse than anything you have. Heck when I watch half the game josh strife hayes has played.... its got me wondering what you all are complaining about?
You open the door theres nothing in sight. You close the door wondering whats in sight. But lets be honest its probably gonna just let you down.
Josh Strife Hayes plays bad games in an already bad genre. Just look at Elden Ring or GoWR: leaps and bounds ahead of all MMOs combined. But it shows me how you guys see glass half full. I just recently played through Ratchet & Clank: A Rift Apart for the first time and then came back to do Euphrosyne. The portals in Rift Apart are revolutionary, you just enter it by running into it and it teleports you instantly, no load time, no white screen for a bit, instant teleport to a completely different level. And then you have XIV and their hip new alliance raids where you wait for the portal to appear, wait like 5 seconds for it to become interactable (what on earth?) and then you have to hold your hand in front of it for a bit before you can finally teleport using the portal, you don't even walk through it like it's a you know, a portal, and even then it takes a bit and a white or whatever black screen before you're finally at your destination. This is far, far from my biggest gripe with the game mind you but come on. I know the technology from Rift Apart would be too much to expect in this game but does it really have to be so clunky.
Nice description of the advantages of a single-player game without any need for an online presence.
Other than that, why are you comparing it with a multi-player game with varying degrees of network connectivity for each player?
Was their point so incomprehensible to you? They're saying the very basics of client interaction and use of slow animations with excessive delays feels aged in general. It's like taking a time machine back to 1998 trying to play some jank ass AOL games.
Even when you compare it to other MMOs it feels dated and slow in that regard.
I'm trying to do my Retainers and Expert Delivery right now, and it just feels so bad. It's not even the network at this point, it's the excessive waiting on animations combined with button prompts all over the place.
Also, the line is getting pretty blurred with Single Player and MMO at this point. Basically has been since Diablo 2, and that was 23 years ago.
Even the Souls games could be considered a type of MMO these days, especially with Seamless Coop.
Hell, I still play Ultima Online to this day, and even it feels way less abrasive. That released in '97.
Not like XIV ever gives us a major reason to actually coop with more than 4-8 players anyway. We're hardly even an MMO anymore.

I did not read it that way.
Thanks for your always invaluable interpretation, but this is what was actually said "The portals in Rift Apart are revolutionary, you just enter it by running into it and it teleports you instantly, no load time, no white screen for a bit, instant teleport to a completely different level."
Followed by a comparison of an Alliance Raid.
I did not read this part "They're saying the very basics of client interaction and use of slow animations with excessive delays feels aged in general."
Your interpretation might be valid. My own interpretation, based on what was written, was as valid.
