This is a lie. Post patch content never really took "a week or two" especially in patches that didn't include the raid tier. At best you might get a day or two worth of content, and that's very gracious. If you took any longer than that, you just weren't playing the game as often, period.
Been playing since ARR and this has pretty much been the consistent content feed since at least SB in a similar time table.

It's not a lie at all because relics used to take that long.

Some steps did because they were artificially limited. But I recall some steps as the anima steps came out that people had done day one and sometimes for more than one weapon if it was something they could just grind over and over.

Man I remember when some fates tied to the ARR books would take forever to spawn. Like Giant Seps or Tower of Power. Course this was before we learned that zones could only have X amount of fates up at the same time. Even after we learned that they still made them appear more frequently. Course you're talking probably more about the maps part. I'm glad we don't have to track down a crafter that could craft you the Dispelling Arrow anymore.

Anima, not Zodiac. Anima was Heavensward. There were definitely some bottlenecks in animas (umbrite, ugh) but there were some steps that people were showing the weapon around same-day.

The ARR books are still that bad with FATEs. I polished off the Zetas I didn't have recently and some of those FATESs when I was on the book steps still refused to spawn. So it was a lot of waiting around on that step. Alexandrite step is easier now since you have the daily quest for maps and you can buy them with poetics.

I actually got 2 relics during SB and 3 during ShB without really planning on it, I just enjoyed the content gameplay loop. Can't say the same about current content.

Yoshi must be a genius, he actually has hardcore defenders defending the concept of... NOT PLAYING. It's all so bizarre, man.

Sometimes I wonder if dropping subs and providing content as piecemeal DLC like TESO does would be a better value for the money.

A better value? For the players I'm sure it is. A better situation? I don't think so. ESO has WAYYYYYY too much cash shop integration because that model clearly isn't as profitable as a monthly subscription. It's simply not a fair trade for me. Also it makes the story continuity feel extremely disjointed and episodic when you just browse and buy what you want as a pack and can skip everything else. Really disrupts the immersion factor.

With a little self control and if you are willing to forsake housing, you can do that in FF14. Pay 15 bucks for a month, finish everything in a week except savage raids probably, unsub again.

Yeah dude it isn't hard, just completely and utterly give up on an entire feature of the game because if you don't, they'll hold your house hostage.
