Would you be opposed to SE implementing a program to scan for addons/parsers?

If I worked at square enix and read this thread, I would investigate the accounts of the people defending the use of addons in this thread and others like it. I would either take action if they were proven guilty, or scoff at them and move on if they were innocent but just defending the use of addons.

If someone is caught breaking ToS, they should be banned. If someone is talking about how they think addons are okay, that's fine it's just suspicious.

This game is at a turning point I think with the hot water of this world first race. Either it will go the direction of WoW and become a toxic meme, or it will crack down hard on addons to remove the problem from the equation.

I will never care about the game until it is legitimate in this way, but it's still a fun RPG experience that I enjoy to immerse myself in. It's just not legitimate from a performance metric perspective. It's like being against steroids, and caring about how you perform relative to a community that embraces steroids. Why would I ever be bothered by a low parse? The game is not legit.

Not sure what you're talking about then since I never implied what you fear. Unless you're using addons and having a little bit of a panic at my suggestion?

Then I'm just not sure what your point is. Square enix has the tools to check into the accounts of their players. If I was working at square enix, I would check out the suspicious users posting in this thread. If they're not found guilty, no problem. If they are? Good riddance. Actioning people who use addons has a ripple effect. If enough people are banned, people will just stop using them out of fear. People will cry in public on reddit about losing access to their account because of addons, and others will slowly but surely smarten up to avoid losing their investment in the game world.

A little bit of policing goes a long way sometimes.

and yes, I am trying to fearmonger against addon users. You should be worried about what might happen to your account if you are defending breaking ToS on the official forums. It's a really bad look for the company and game.
