What's the point with that quite lackluster story in Endwalker?

Though, those radical changes that you are talking about is usually a result of the devs being surrounded by fanboys that are just glorified yes-men who will cheer and clap at anything the devs think up. What did you expect would happen to a game in that scenario?

First rule of game dev is players don't actually know what they want in a conscious manner so you look at what they do not what they say unless you've pin pointed a specific issue and are data gathering about that issue and so look at what people say about the issue (if you're lucky, more often you look at what they say about things around the issue and try to use that to get an outline of how to fix the actual issue).

We quite honestly, as a rule, ignore fan boy rants or hater rants unless they hit a critical threshold of repetition among the various channels of communication.

It's almost all signal noise.

Games fail when devs lose track of the core demographic and early adopters who keep the game alive through passive advertisement and recruitment, often because devs lose sight of the forest for the trees through the process I described above, or the necessity of making money for our corporate owners overshadowseverything else.

Talk to artists who do commissions for clients, look at what they complain about in their client requests. Same thing going on here.

Well, good thing SE is ran by nothing but devs. We would be in real trouble if there were people who called the shots who put profits of the company over individual games they own the IP to~! ;^)

Yes this is problem. If SE is run by us in the guild game is done way guild want it to be. Because we can not be running the game we hate the game. The SE should give the charge of the the game to us now that it popular and we making it into the thing we wanted with the traditional masculine game of the thrones dark fantasy. I honestly find the OFs the most accessible mainstream place for any kind of "controversial" discussion because the XIV Reddits are policed by openly biased mods who'll look for the slightest excuse to delete comments or close threads they don't agree with, or look the other way when people are violating the rules but speaking out against the "dissidents" who dare to say anything critical about the story or other aspects that are considered off-limits by the majority.

Discord is generally not going to be much better unless you specifically find a more open/similar-minded community, and Twitter is...Twitter.

For now, I am simply holding my breath and waiting for the new MSQs to captivate me in the same manner that the original storyline did...and hopefully without evoking as much mental/emotional dissonance as Endwalker did.

You don't have a discussion here. You complain incessantly about things that will never change or try to spread your opinion like is it gospel. This thread has been kept alive for hundreds of pages and what precisely did it yield? Nothing. You didn't change the opinion of others. That's a lot of senselessly hostile drivel for an off-hand remark directed at nobody in particular. But feel free to continue being personally offended by anyone who doesn't think XIV is a spotless image of perfection. I also find it amusing.

To me, this topic was less about changing opinions and more about trying to validate people who already share similar sentiments because a lot of people have come in to express their feelings about things that they felt could've been done better, that they disliked, etc. A significant part of the community is so against any form of criticism that it makes people genuinely afraid to say anything negative or give honest opinions about things; particularly the content creators who stand to potentially lose from it if they don't conform to the masses, but when you have like-minded people coming together, it can empower others to make them feel willing to speak out when they may not have originally.

Viewing things through a critical eye as opposed to just eating it up without a second thought has largely helped me to appreciate things more, not less, and while I still largely like XIV, I'm just not terribly sure if that's going to continue being the case going forward anymore.
