That's my point. yeah. Even if you never signed up for this and vote with your wallet because you don't want to encourage more of this crap, it doesn't matter because everyone else just gobbles it up. And now a lot of people who used to defend it when it was "just mounts" or "just a haircut" or "just an emote" are coming around and acting upset because it's affecting a seasonal event that they care about, and those people are getting what they encouraged.

Also, I assume the tree being bare wood is the point. It's not a conifer "Christmas tree" but a deciduous tree decorated with lights while it is leafless in winter.

If I was decorating an in-game house seasonally, I would certainly appreciate being able to swap out normally leafy trees for these winter versions, assuming they match closely enough.
It doesn't take much dev awareness to just give people a santa themed outfit and an indoor tree for a christmas event, is all I'm saying. "Standard" was the wrong word, I'll own up to that, but go look in the cash shop at all the 3 dollar outfits and furniture from past xmas events and compare it to this year's. Santa outfits, reindeer gear, snowman suits, antlers with a nose that /visors on and off, christmas trees that go -in- your house and actually look like traditional xmas trees, some even have snow on the branches and stuff -- and then compare it to this. The emaciated reindeer mount looks like a trash mob. The tree is a bleached looking trunk straight out of Coerthas, with some empty branches and basically can't be used by most players since most players don't own a home. And this is where the homeowners will come in to act like their home ownership is some sort of checkmate or they'll turn the next 2 pages of discussion into "just move to Materia if you really want a home!"

idk dude, I'm just done expecting good things from this game's events. If they're good, that's great. But I'm not surprised at all when we get some bare bones seasonal event followed up by an 18 dollar costume that looks like it should've been in the event. I'm not even shocked by the poor optics of it anymore. SE knows people will buy whatever they churn out so they don't care. I hate WoW but I hope its recent success forces SE to stop taking its players for granted.

That's the thing, though. They already gave us those items. We don't need a Christmas tree because it's already in the game; we don't need a Santa hat because it's already in the game (and usually going for decent marketboard prices still). I would rather they do different things. I like the idea of those trees and I don't see why a winter tree looking like trees from a wintery zone is particularly a negative (or avoidable even if they made this one from scratch).

The reindeer could do with some kind of collar or saddle or something, though. It looks too plain for a seasonal mount.

That's a completely separate issue. I would argue that those items might as well not be in the game if you missed out on those events, since the only way to get them is to fork over money. There's no option to take advantage of past events. If you want an indoor tree this year, your options are to hand millions of gil to a hoarder, or pay square five bucks. This isn't even the main point of the conversation though; the point is that past events had nice stuff that anyone could use, and this year's event is really only useful to a homeowner, with a reindeer mount that'll get as much use as any other mount (i.e. not much, unless you spend all of your time outside major cities/towns). Seasonal outfits can be used anywhere, by anyone; an indoor tree can be used by anyone with any kind of home at all. I'm tired of returning to the point of "well I like the tree." Whether or not you personally like the tree is moot; most people can't even use it, and that's the bigger issue. Compare that to past events, where it had costumes that anyone could wear. Furniture that people with apartments could utilize. etc.

The original Santa outfit is sellable on the market board and anyone who completed the event can get them from the calamity salvager. There are always posts every year of people giving out tons of them for free (they cost like, 120gil each)

I am comparing to past events.

Not every event had a costume, and the majority (if not all) events give away some kind of housing item, including outdoor items, despite their relatively low usability.

The events always oscillate between decent rewards and mediocre rewards. There are times we get outfits and times we do not. This is a time we do not, but it is not the first time it has happened.

We got an outfit for All Saints' Wake, and we're apparently getting one for Valentione's. As much as I personally prefer getting glamour over mounts, minions, barding or whatever else they want to invent, I know that they tend to alternate and (after getting over the disappointment that the Far Northern set isn't for Starlight after all) I'm not really surprised that it's a non-glamour round this time.
