New winter glam for mogstation and not xmas event

The point of this thread is people balking at the price of Mogstation items.

Price isn't the issue. The OP was concerned that the outfit was on the mog station shop rather than in-game.

As I pointed out in a previous post, it is in the cash shop because the business unit responsible for cash shop offerings is outside of the control of the game developers. There is no way the developers can incorporate the design in-game because it wasn't created by them in the first place. Indeed, it may have originally been created for the Korean or Chinese cash shops. There is no way those items will ever appear as in-game rewards.

Understanding the reason is not the same as agreeing with it.


These aren’t China/Korea server items since those always appear on those servers first and I didn’t see anything about these popping up there months ago.

These were created by the Mogstation team to be on the Mogstation and fund the game directly partly since sub prices haven’t risen with inflation and have been static for almost 20 years while costs of running a more complex game go up. Cosmetic shops in MMOs for real money have been a thing for a long time so the solution is “simple”.

But at the same time, it would be nice if well done but more simple outfits like this existed in-game for everyone and sometimes seems arbitrary for which modern/real world glams will show up in-game for free from treasure hunt mats and which will show up in the Mogstation. The price is a bit steep for something that isn’t too different from items already in the game and there’s no male version. It’s also suspicious that the cultural uniform for a real world group of people famous for herding reindeer comes out in Mogstation at the same time as reindeer mount.

Seasonal event quality has felt inconsistent lately and while I know and understand why items exist on the Mogstation, something like this could have made sense to be a part of the game instead. Mogstation isn’t going away, but I think for that price it should be things that are more fantastical looking like the spriggan mount or special things like NPC outfits and April Fools school uniform.

Seeing all the people defend a cash shop in a game with a subscription really puts things into prospective. No wonder game companies can get away with what they do. Loot boxes were so passively accepted governments had to get involved. What a sad state of affairs, oh well. At least I can get that sweet dopamine hit for only 18 units of currency!

Yup, people get what they deserve. I'm glad more people are upset this time around though, because the actual holiday event is so damn lacking this time around. A bare ass christmas tree that just looks like stripped wood, and it's outdoor only so if you don't have a house you can't even use it. A mount you'll barely even see unless you make a point of standing outside major towns just to use it. No actual festive outfit to speak of, where in previous years it was just a standard. Why implement it now and sell it for 4 dollars in a year, when they could sell it for 18 dollars now, amirite? And then SE doesn't even have to comment, because fans here will defend the company for free. Even if you don't buy it, enough other people will so it won't even matter. The game will just get worse. I used to complain about this sort of thing all the time like when we got the cruise chaser mount as a 30 dollar package instead of an in game earnable item, or when we were asked to use grubhub to get a pizza emote and then the promotional company screwed the pooch and scammed tons of people, or all the dumb costumes released in the cash shop while there were content droughts going on, and all I ever heard in response was "what are you, poor??? It's only 30 dollars broski!" I've given up on having standards for this game in that regard. If I like an item, I'll buy it purely on that. I used to not buy this stuff on principle, but there's just no fucking point in voting with your dollar when most people will just buy 3 to spite the people who buy none.

And now, here we are. Christmas in XIV is dogshit and finally more people are upset about it. But what'll you do? Even if you boycott the new item, thousands of other people will cough up and buy it. And where does the money go? Probably to fund a new FF16 trailer.

I remember when that Spriggan mount came out around Easter, people pointing out how scummy it was got drowned out by "Spriggans aren't actually easter related, it's not actually a holiday item!"

Hold on there Joker, I never signed up for this. Besides, who cares if a few are upset? For every person denouncing it there are 10 more willing to spend money for the "service". I'm glad you are calling an orange and orange but this mess is only going to get worse. Not trying to black pill you or anything, I'm sure eventually companies will push too hard and the majority will start demanding some change but I doubt cash shops or a system similar to that will ever go away anymore. Pandora's box was opened, all we can do is get out of the way and say "No, I am not going to give you 10 currency units to change how my avatar looks."

It has never been standard to get an outfit every year. Moonfire is the closest to being consistent on that, but even then not perfectly, and other events cycle between giving an outfit OR a mount OR a minion etc. but rarely everything at once.

Also, I assume the tree being bare wood is the point. It's not a conifer "Christmas tree" but a deciduous tree decorated with lights while it is leafless in winter.

If I was decorating an in-game house seasonally, I would certainly appreciate being able to swap out normally leafy trees for these winter versions, assuming they match closely enough.

Even if you never signed up for this and vote with your wallet because you don't want to encourage more of this crap, it doesn't matter because everyone else just gobbles it up. And now a lot of people who used to defend it when it was "just mounts" or "just a haircut" or "just an emote" are coming around and acting upset because it's affecting a seasonal event that they care about, and those people are getting what they encouraged.

It doesn't take much dev awareness to just give people a santa themed outfit and an indoor tree for a christmas event, is all I'm saying. "Standard" was the wrong word, I'll own up to that, but go look in the cash shop at all the 3 dollar outfits and furniture from past xmas events and compare it to this year's. Santa outfits, reindeer gear, snowman suits, antlers with a nose that /visors on and off, christmas trees that go -in- your house and actually look like traditional xmas trees, some even have snow on the branches and stuff -- and then compare it to this. The emaciated reindeer mount looks like a trash mob. The tree is a bleached looking trunk straight out of Coerthas, with some empty branches and basically can't be used by most players since most players don't own a home. And this is where the homeowners will come in to act like their home ownership is some sort of checkmate or they'll turn the next 2 pages of discussion into "just move to Materia if you really want a home!"

idk dude, I'm just done expecting good things from this game's events. If they're good, that's great. But I'm not surprised at all when we get some bare bones seasonal event followed up by an 18 dollar costume that looks like it should've been in the event. I'm not even shocked by the poor optics of it anymore. SE knows people will buy whatever they churn out so they don't care. I hate WoW but I hope its recent success forces SE to stop taking its players for granted.
