    The tears are so delicious.

Also, there is not a single offline FF where you actually lose experience points for dying (individually), but nice job trying to twist things to justify a dumb idea. Falling behind due to your party killing the enemy while you're dead is different than actually losing points.

Do you know why FFXI had an experience points penalty? It wasn't because the developers followed your FF line of thought. It was because EQ1, the game it was pretty much made after, did.

I'm honestly surprised you didn't ask for all progress to be rerolled back to the last time you touched an Aetheryte if your entire party dies. It's the FF game over, amirite?

Im confused why people keep comparing FFXIV to single player games, its an entirely different genre and makes no sense whatsoever. SP loss gives a feeling of danger when your about to die and many people like that, it can be very fulfilling to narrowly escape death, but you dont quite care if all you lose from dying is a 30 second walk back. Im not sure if its a good idea for this game, but you should at least see WHY other people think it adds another element to the game.

FFXIV is an mmo, it follows much different rules than single player final fantasys and you shouldnt expect the same thing from an entirely different genre. Its like saying you should get an M16 in FFXIV because you can obtain those in COD and that games fun!

Back to basics for FFXIV. Don't ignore the history of the series, and the game that started it all. Stop tyring to appease the casual MMO player, and instead focus on the Final Fantasy fans. Or just rename the game Rapture and forget the FF name.
Final Fantasy XI was played more by MMO fans than FF fans. People like you fail to realize that the console crowd is a casual dominant crowd and the people who played the early FFs mostly grew out of gaming entirely. Final Fantasy is a very old series, it's time to move on from the roots. XIV should evolve the series, but at the same time respect where it came from. This doesn't mean they need to follow the same mechanics.

And when a character dies in a Final Fantasy game, you raise them and there's no penalty whatsoever, so I'm not really sure what Final Fantasy games you've played where there was an exp penalty, explicit or not.

I think he means that if a character is dead at the end of a fight then he doesnt get any xp for that battle, which has been in many ff games.

I was responding to the guy using the "it's a FF" argument above. Thanks for indirectly helping to make his post seem dumber, however, as he was saying that there should be a death penalty because he twisted the way single player FFs worked.

The problem I fear from gear degradation or gear damage, is that it can prevent me from continuing on with my friends.

If a death's gear damage amount is too strong, it could force me to stop playing immediately until I can find someone willing to fix my items. I wouldn't like it to be too strong, but I wouldn't like it to be too weak.

However, I can also see the benefits to gear damage from a person who has a craft high enough to successfully repair an item. It makes me want to level up a crafting job to prepare.

    2. Occurrence of an ”equipment degradation” effect only when using return after death (Recovered by repair)
I think it is a good idea! I'm not sure on the % of damage to gear that you are aiming for or that people agree, to. It has to be something that people don't want though. 50% is way too much, but 10% is way too little, in my opinion.

    1. Definite occurrence of a ”Temporary status down” effect upon recovery of death (Wears off after a set time OR by paying gil to an NPC)
I'm not so sure on this. If the temporary status down effect is too strong and too long in duration, it can force me to fail a timed Guildleve quest that I'm soloing. (I tend to solo often.)

    I'm hoping for #2.

Maybe I misunderstood, but both 1 & 2 are being added. They aren't separate systems.
