You must have really, really bad tanks

Anyway, I'm seriously amazed by the fact that some people really think that a mere timesink like experience-based penalty will instill "fear" of death in the hearts of people. Might work one or two times, then it becomes routine like everything else.

Unless you lose something permanently (which is obviously not practical nor acceptable in this kind of environment), there's nothing that does that. Death has long been a negligible element in videogames, and there's nothing wrong with it.

    I strongly support this solution.
Too many people would like to impose fun-less time sinks on everyone in the name of their hardcore nostalgia.

What happens when your party dies in Final Fantasy? Game Over.

What happens when just one character dies? They fall behind other party members in experience.

Back to basics for FFXIV. Don't ignore the history of the series, and the game that started it all. Stop tyring to appease the casual MMO player, and instead focus on the Final Fantasy fans. Or just rename the game Rapture and forget the FF name.

I'm sure you mean "reload just before the fight"

Game over = Turn off the console and throw the disk in the bin. I'm suuuure you did that

Confusing your personal opinion with that of "The final fantasy fans" is a logical fallacy.

edit: damn, sha beat me to it.

Final Fantasy XI was played more by MMO fans than FF fans. People like you fail to realize that the console crowd is a casual dominant crowd and the people who played the early FFs mostly grew out of gaming entirely. Final Fantasy is a very old series, it's time to move on from the roots. XIV should evolve the series, but at the same time respect where it came from. This doesn't mean they need to follow the same mechanics.

And when a character dies in a Final Fantasy game, you raise them and there's no penalty whatsoever, so I'm not really sure what Final Fantasy games you've played where there was an exp penalty, explicit or not.

I think he means that if a character is dead at the end of a fight then he doesnt get any xp for that battle, which has been in many ff games.
