Having a job that I enjoy would be wonderful... assuming I get paid. If my job doesn't pay me, I'm not going to continue working there, regardless of how much I enjoy it. Likewise, if a piece of content doesn't have a proper reward system, I'm going to do it once and then abandon it for content that does. When content doesn't have a proper reward structure, there's no reason to continue 'working' there long-term.
And on the flip side, no matter how good the reward is, if its not fun why bother. Why subject yourself to that, when there's a myriad of jobs/content/games out there that will be "fun" while also giving you rewards you seek.Having a job that I enjoy would be wonderful... assuming I get paid. because life in 99.99% of the time is not like this. take the gaming industry what % of all the people working in it doing what they want.
so why give rewards at all from lvl 1 to 90?? just have the starting race skin. then the job gear look an d1 weapon. why give more? Many people love to do content just to do it. There's a general consensus (outside of the forums) that Criterion is a fun raid. Many people do not subscribe to FFXIV recurrently. They do so for one month at a time, maybe only a couple of times a year. They buy a month get their clears in, then go back to playing WoW or whatever else they were doing. There's just not enough content to justify drawing this content out for a full year. And that's fine! Many people love this. Even Yoshida told us to unsubscribe once we were done.
So why beat a dead horse by giving content arbitrary rewards? Why create a Skinner box? We have other Skinner box games that we can play. Give us the fight, let us beat it, and don't make us do it again. I have better games to play.
and what people buy a mount if they do not play the game?

Most people don't have that luxury, sadly.
But back on topic, it's an MMO. Time = money, and time = rewards. If our time isn't well spent on a particular piece of content, either through poor design or lackluster rewards, said content usually just dies.
