Personally I want DRK to be 2nd lowest DPS of the four tanks but conversely have the second most mitigation/utility and healing. I think it could still be that with a Delirium finisher.
I also think they need a really cool shadow visual effect equivalent to Inner Release while Delirium is active.
That wouldn't change anything about DRK, since that's literally what it does now.
You already use all the OGCDs when Living Shadow is out, because LS is on 2mins which means it aligns with the 2-minute burst when you want to go ham on your OGCD spam. If you're not burning every offensive OGCD you have in the general timeframe when LS is out, you're doing something majorly wrong.
As far as the topic, A rework wouldn't solve anything. Through their changes to PLD & GNB this expansion by simplifying aspects about their job design (Attonement nerf going into EW to squash optimization of attonement shifting, Continuation range increase, Bloodfest 90s -> 120s, the upcoming burstification of PLD that will no doubt place huge emphasis on Req and simplify the rest of the kit), they want to keep tanks simple to play. A rework in the hopes of giving them more complexity is pointless - effectively every single rework they've done since SHB has just made jobs simpler. Asking for a WAR rework would be likely to just make them make it even more smooth brain, like removing eye's gauge generation while changing path's generation to 25 so everything would be cleanly divisble by 25 and prevent overcapping on combos or getting non- /25 values when using infuriate + combos, or removing Storm's eye entirely and baking its damage buff into WAR's potencies by default.
Oh god, I can already see it happening. Making WAR's smoothbrain gameplay even more insufferable by giving it DrK's boring 1-2-3 spam for 45 seconds but then your reward is equally as boring 4-4-4 spam.
I thought I'd give warrior a try again this tier (a bad idea in hindsight) and I'm already running into the same problem as I did in ShB, the rotation is so basic that my brain starts to completely zone out in the middle of fights ...occasionally leading to some rather awkward deaths on the most basic mechanics, like dying to Double Rush because thinking about the weather seemed more interesting.
"oGCD Fell cleave between GCD fell cleaves", you mean the magical Shinten/Kyuten that is Edge/Flood?
Anyways, readjusting the potencies and where they come from to make Living Shadow more intuitive as a burst window (and keeping the damage output essentially the same) does not strike me as a bad idea. While it takes some freedom and just further cements 2min buff windows, it is a short-term band-aid to make it more intuitive.
In reality though, Living Shadow is a glorified DOT on legs that will kill you under effects like Acceleration Bomb or Ordained Stillness when it attacks, so more interaction with a capstone ability would be more appropriate, thinking something along the lines of Bunshin.
Bunshin, Enshroud, really anything that isn't a glorified DoT with a 3 second delay and terrible AI when it comes to target switching. The same applies to MCH to certain extend, but that one has atleast slightly more flexibility. In reality though, Living Shadow is a glorified DOT on legs that will kill you under effects like Acceleration Bomb or Ordained Stillness when it attacks, so more interaction with a capstone ability would be more appropriate, thinking something along the lines of Bunshin.
This exactly happened to me in P5s and P6s several times. It also happened in E1s on release and that's when I learned no, I need to play a different tank for Savage because I literally can't focus on how boring this rotation is lol. I was hoping the healing would make WAR more engaging for P5s and P6s tank busters but nope. At least can fool around with Primal Rend gap closing shenanigans when not going for pure optimal DPS :^)I thought I'd give warrior a try again this tier (a bad idea in hindsight) and I'm already running into the same problem as I did in ShB, the rotation is so basic that my brain starts to completely zone out in the middle of fights ...occasionally leading to some rather awkward deaths on the most basic mechanics, like dying to Double Rush because thinking about the weather seemed more interesting.
That's kind of where I am coming from bub. I am speaking as a player who is very casual, and right now when I play DRK, I find that I am either letting some oGCDs cap, while others are not available during LS window. So I'll be the first to tell you I am doing something wrong, but I am also currently learning the job as I don't have a lot of experience tanking duties. Especially level 90 duties. That wouldn't change anything about DRK, since that's literally what it does now.

My suggestion on adding a dmg boost to LS is something that is relatable to me since I do have quite a bit of experience playing DPS; something to kind of help reel in all those oGCDs and compartmentalize them. I think you're right when it comes to that not having much of an impact on how DRK 'feels' especially in relation to having skills like Primal Rend or Chaotic Strike. I suppose in this regard, they would need something on the GCD other than Bloodspiller. DRK seems to be lacking in actual Weaponskills, but have a lot of abilities.
I don’t know how to put this in simpler terms: dark knight already has a higher damage opener than many actual dps. Adding a damage increase to the 2m burst does not do it any favours. Dark knights rotation is not difficult: generally burn everything in your opener and again when LS is able to be hit. If you’re going to overlap, throw out an edge and use salted earth on cd. It’s just really busy when it’s doing stuff, similar to ninja.
I literally just made a post about this https://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/...10#post6110310
Warriors are just broken tbh.
