    WAR needs a rework

    Hello there.

    Well, everything is in the title.

    I started playing halfway through hadowbringer and I've mostly played WAR since the beginning and as much as I love the class, I think it needs to be remade from the ground up.

    With the recent add of the new savage tier, we've seen many poeple rightfully complaining about the balancing of the class but for the WAR, one of the main issue is that you, imo, can't make him to perform as well as the others without making him absolutely broken since it's the easiest of the 4 tanks by a large margin and perhaps, the easiest job of the game.

    And that's a problem in itself. I havn't play with the old version of the WAR so I can't compare but right now, the gameplay of the WAR is as basic as it can be, to the point of being boring at times. We have a ressource utterly pointless since Endwalker left us with only one spell to use it.

    At this point, you can put a 15 CD on the Fellcleave, since nor Onslaught nor Revolt use the Beast Gauge anymore. It will not change anything.

    We have a pretty big burst damage with Inner Release but it litterally plays out by pressing 2 different key. And aside of that, the same 123 / 124 (4->storms eye) repetition until Inner Release come back.

    I've understand that SQ tend to simplify jobs, but in the case of WAR, it's too much.

    In the end, I don't think they'll do it, since nothing has been said by the dev team regarding a change for the WAR now or the 7.0 and onwards, I just want to know if I'm the only one thinking that way

    TBH, I think the things you are complaining about are what War is now meant for. It fulls a similar role to Whm in that it is the beginner friendly tank to let people get into tanking in general.

    Like each of the tank's dps rotations fulfill these kind of design points:
    War: Simple rotation, few oGCDs
    Drk: Simple rotation, many oGCDs
    Pld (pre-6.3): Strict rotation, few oGCDs
    GNB: Strict rotation, many oGCDs

    If you start going into the other territories of the other tanks they will invariably start feeling more alike than what they currently are. Like right now Drk and War are basically carbon copies of each other offensively except that Drk has a crap-ton of oGCDs.

    Which I can understand, but the thing is, WHM and WAR are both starting class as well. Them being easy entry for beginner is a thing, but why should they stay so bare at lvl 90 ? There is plenty of time to developp their gameplay on the run.

    I mean, following the whole MSQ for a new player will likely take a hundred of hours.

    It's not like a GNB who pop lvl 60 and have to start with an established rotation.

    Though I agree a bit with the DRK being a copy of the WAR but he at least have to manage his mp to some degree and be careful about his weaving constantly throughout a fight

    It's not balance that's necessarily the issue, it's the direction of the game, bosses are becoming less mechanical based, and more action combat based. The latest stuff is basically playing DDR, you're moving to a dance instead of having interesting mechanics or coming up with different ways to fight the boss. It's not just about adding features to classes the games is in a weird in between state where they either fully change the combat system to a more ARPG system or they stop with the insane aoe dances in boss fight add more mechanics in and work on class mechanics more.

    I miss ARR WAR that was unga bunga heavy dps tank. I'm not a big fan of all the heavy self heals it has.

    I really like Warrior for it's general look and design wise. (I like me some big axes and berserkers, only thing i like better is edgy knights and holy knights)

    I don't think I agree with warrior being "simple axe healer tank" I'd like warrior to have some more complexity but also be generally comfy to play, Upheavel I'm pretty sure used to be gauge spender, while this wasn't anything complex it gave you more then the "FELL CLEAVE" gauge, which made it more interesting, I don't think warrior needs to be Paladin levels of complexity but it should have some optimisation, but still be easy to play on a basic level

    Talking about Dark Knight as its basically busy warrior right now, I'd generally like a total rework of Dark Knight so it feels unique seriously if you look at how dark knight and warrior play it's practically the same if you're ignoring OGCD's

    I don't think WAR needs a rework, at least not a major one. It could use like 1 or 2 more things to make the rotation a bit more busy though I don't really have any ideas for what. Taking Upheaval and Onslaught off the gauge certainly didn't help.

    Every class probably needs a rework. I mean now they are going to rework AST, DRG, and PLD?

    Something tells me it has everything to do with forcing every class to conform to their 2 minute burst window battle design.

    It just isn't any good.
