Pretty sure the word Kaiten translates to 'spin' or rotate. Which in the case of ffxiv, was when SAM spins their sword in advance.

Not familiar with Jojo beyond the Dio memes, so can't comment on that, but there's a technique in rurouni Kensington where the ninja guy, Aoshi does a spinning slash called Kaiten Kenbu. And then there's the Hyuga clan in Naruto with the technique Kaiten, which is just them spinning like a top to block and repel enemy attacks.

It's literally just to spin.
