Yeah, I've never had anyone give me crap about it either. This seems like a GD thing (starting today) instead of an in game thing. Not all that surprising, to be honest. I know how it goes around here. It's a shame that GOOD feedback and debates get lost in the mess because of threads like this.

While I cannot give a specific date on when personal housing will be implemented, I can say that prices will be completely separate from free company housing, and, naturally, far more affordable.

That story I mentioned above? Syrcus Tower. ARR. Don't paint it like there's no jerk FFXIV players from the start.
Ive been in FF 14 for over three years now. I can count the number of toxic, abusive players I have met in that time on the fingers of ONE hand.

I played WOW for eight years, and in the first twelve months of that game I could write an entire BOOK on the toxic people I met.

There's a huge contrast between the two, and in all truth, I ascribe that difference ( this is my opinion only, bear in mind ) to the fact that FF 14's TOS and code of conduct is RIGOROUSLY enforced. I have heard the phrase "toxic positivity" before, but disagree with that perception.

The fact of the matter is that players in FF 14 mind their manners because they know that the GMs will NOT tolerate or condone bad behaviour towards others.

"Toxic positivity" is not the same as people being well aware that their behaviour and actions will have consequences.

if I may, two short examples?

    Episode one:

We had in WOW, over I think a one week period, a certain player who was using the public chat to tell..shall we say...very..ahem..disgusting jokes over a certain event in WW2. He was told he had been reported and laughed "They wont do anything"..and that person was right. Multiple reports had no effect. His behaviour suddenly ended, we presumed that someone in the GM staff had finally had enough.

He was back three days later.

Eventually everyone had had a gutful of him and he left the server...to another one I had an alt on. Guess what he did there. For months.

    Episode two:

WOW has whats called Winter Veil, the Christmas event, with vendors and presents given in a city called Ironforge. You can mount in Ironforge, and players used their VERY large mount to sit on the vendors to make it harder for people to access them. Mammoths. Huge dragons. People kept asking them to stop, they refused and laughed. Christmas Eve came up, and the situation was unchanged..players who had had enough started filing even more reports..but this time, the griefers got the shock of their lives, when one by one , they vanished.

One of my guildmates gleefully told us that they had spoken live with a GM, who said a staffer had been called in from home to deal with the problem, and that they were, understandably, "NOT HAPPY JAN'.

We started hearing complaints from their friends that they had been given 2 week suspensions. Later on, when anyone got on their large mount to block NPC's, they were quietly reminded of what WOULD happen to them if they didnt stop.

After that incident, players were suddenly well behaved, keeping their mounts off the NPC's. The publically known fact that action A led to suspension B was a sufficient deterrent. As the French put it.."pour encourager les autres"

Eventually there was a no mount zone created around the NPC's.

    Conclusion?

When one knows that one will be held responsible for their actions, one tends to listen to the better angels of their nature.

Simple. Its a polite declaration to let people know that you will probably make mistakes and die to mechanics you're unfamiliar with and it became habit for people to do over time, regardless of the age of the content.
You don't need to overthink it.

Honestly, if I'm doing content at any time during the first week of release, I straight up just don't say anything. I think it's a pretty decent "hey there's a good chance that a good number of people are new to this" window. That said, if we're talking like 3 weeks to a month or so into the content, yeah I'm likely announcing in advance that I'm new so may or may not execute mechanics as intended.

That's nice to know. I probably won't ever be on OCE, regrettably.

If someone's undergeared but genuinely trying their best, I'll usually just offer to make them gear once we're out of the instance. This is most often applicable to sprouts in ARR or Heavensward, and is why I keep a retainer full of the appropriate mats (so I can just craft immediately without having to run out and get anything), but I've done it for folks at cap as well; I literally made an offer just the other day to someone who was really apologetic for being relatively undergeared in the new dungeon of "if you get the tomestone mats, I'll make you a set of HQ Rinascita gear." And then I did.

Heck, you're on my datacenter. If you really want to do the new raids but feel your lack of current gear is all that prevents you from doing so, I make the same offer: get the tomestone mats, and I'll make an HQ set of the gear. Other than the tomestone mats, all crafting a current set takes is time, and that I have; I can easily craft while doing something else—watching a movie, waiting for something to compile at work, etc.
It's really my weapon that matters the most, and I don't have that. I never did the alliance raid, so I was unable to upgrade that. I wasn't actively playing the game when the alliance raid came out, and I am hesitant to go in and learn it with my outdated weapon, gear, and just learning it in general this late. Normally, I'd just leave it until next expansion, or wait for the relic weapon. My gear is just tomestone, and that is just on my whm. Nothing augmented. Well, I can get better with the pandemonium raid gear, but that circles, again, around to my original gear being out of date. I also don't like that people will upload my performance along with theirs, and I won't hide it either, because that looks bad. It's a lose lose.

Get used to it: real life is full of people doing things for reasons you'll never know.
