Will casters/healers ever get non-robe sets?

There's plenty out there for glam purposes that doesn't go the full robe route. Stormblood was better for this. Thematically, we're kind of stuck between Pandaemonium and Aglaia. It might be some time before we see another set that's a departure from that.

I just go the casual route as I've done the other stuff for years.

I guess I just wish that they tried to switch the theme for different jobs within a role.

Most of the caster and healer sets look like they’re designed for black and white mage respectively.

I would disagree on there being plenty as you have yourself said you prefer to just stick to casual look which is cool! I'm really glad there are casual glams in the game. But if you're someone like me that doesn't favour the casual glams I'm starting to run out of things that are fresh. I feel like a big problem is the ambiguity of the term robe or dress - personally when I say "robe" I really mean any garment that goes from neck to floor that forms that "hoop" at the bottom. It doesn't matter if it's a gown, a monk robe, a trench coat -anything- that uses that base kinda "frame" is the problem because of the way it interacts with a characters legs. I think another issues as well is these complaints come in waves because they kinda correspond to big gear reveals like tome/raid/crafted that we're getting next week. these are going to bis and act as like aesthetic summations of what happens in the tier they're released in. They're something to get excited about and you only really get 3 chances a tier and it looks like this time all 3 are going to be the same silhouette which obscures the legs completely and only really fits a blm aesthetic in a really pedestrian way. I don't think the designs themselves are ugly or bad I just think the huge garment is oppressive and unwieldy for glam and in execution on in game models.

With Sage being added this expac, and red mage being added in SB, we now have a healer and a caster that don’t really fit the traditional “mage style” aesthetically.

Thoughts?

I’m totally ok with casters getting a magical girl style outfit instead of robes, because… magical?

I would just like 1 set per patch to be non-robe. I don’t think it’s asking for a lot. They’ve done it before. Just get creative. I mean the last raid tier is was all cloth based and somehow the tanks, and melee ended up getting the best looking sets.

With Sage being added this expac, and red mage being added in SB, we now have a healer and a caster that don’t really fit the traditional “mage style” aesthetically.

Despite this, time and time again almost every single caster and healer set is a bulky gown, usually sharing an exact set with the only difference being dark/light colors. Red mages are literally doing back flips in combat. It’s hard to find a good red mage glamour.

The new crafted set is the latest example of this. That scouting set would really fit a job like red mage.

Does the JP community have similar complaints? Or is this mostly an NA complaint?

I'm just not sure if you're serious. Are you asking for plate armour because there are a vast number of non-gown armours for casters. Spend 10 minutes on Eorzea Collect ffs. There's loads of stuff, especially the sci-fi-ish stuff (Allagan, Omega, etc)

The answer has been made quite clear since the game came out. Either stop playing healer, or accept you're going to get robes.

Let's calm down! I love to wear dresses or skirts in anything that isn't Tank which is synonymous with plate armour for me.

This is my most 'non-robe' healer glam and yet even with the plate like walking sounds (maybe the Bonewicca Soother boots?), it is still pretty robe like. I remember having a pretty nice actual plate looking armor on WHM in Ffxi to use dual wielding clubs lol ^^
