The problem is, your condition seems false to me.
What percentage of the player base has hit the current 400-item limit for the glamour dresser?
No one I know is even close.
I suspect that only a tiny fraction of the player base will even approach the 800-item limit of the glamour dresser. So to me it seems a complete waste of finite development resources to "re-work" the glamour system just to please that tiny fraction.
I'd far rather those resources went into developing new content.
Every system has limitations, but that doesn't make them necessarily flawed, and I don't see the current glamour system as flawed. I find it quite fun, even if I'd sometimes like to take a set of dressmaker shears to some of the stupid baggy and/or clunky things they hang off of many of the nicer tops, and even if I do miss most items taking two dyes (each with its own map of course) like items did in SWTOR.
And if you don't enjoy playing the current glamour system...
why do you need more than 800 items in your glamour chest?
These complaints, IMO, aren't motivated by the glamour system being flawed, they're motivated by the more-more-more gimme-gimme-gimme sense of entitlement that's all too common on these forums.
Memory issues, to which I have no doubt are insanely difficult to fix, is one of the reasons I hope they consider producing another MMO that coexists with FFXIV like FFXI did. Substantially different enough to justify it, and fixing all these other core problems as well- Yoshida already mentioned, in very brief passing, how the next MMO might be like.
There are other games with equally or better than WoW glamour systems too. GW2 has mutli-dye system in theirs.
Like I said I've no doubt the absolutely insane task of changing a core system that probably was not designed to be changed in the first place... But definitely this is one of those things that make me wonder what a game that had a better idea of what modern means without being rushed / attempting to revive a massive project. It's not a personal attack but the feature lack is apparent, so I don't take personal qualm, but I do... find it unfortunate.
On the other hand we do essentially have an 800 slot equipment bank for free which is an interesting statement to be able to make lol. That's a lot. I don't prefer it that way, but it's still a lot of 'bank slot'.
I mean, my dresser is full and I have 2-3 retainers full of gear that won't fit in the dresser. So idk how many people have this issue but I'm one of them lol There's just so much gear in the game I like to mix and match things all the time to make new outfitsThe problem is, your condition seems false to me.

Everybody I know has the same problem or worse.
Honestly, that poster is always just angry at everybody and white knghting for no reason.
The actual question people should be discussing: what content would you be willing to jettison from 7.0 or 8.0 for a WoW-style transmog system?
YoshiP has said that, given how FF14 is coded, completely replacing the glamour dresser would be prohibitively expensive in terms of development time and resources. So, a serious discussion would actually address the question of what you'd be willing to pay in terms of development resources. Would you trade a dungeon? An alliance raid? A savage raid tier? Graphical update? Network updates?
Of course, I don't know what the exact tradeoffs would have to be—those were just examples. Pretending like there are no tradeoffs is a nonsense discussion.

I think what each person can and wants to give up varies from person to person. The actual question people should be discussing: what content would you be willing to jettison from 7.0 or 8.0 for a WoW-style transmog system?

I, for example, could have lived esily without the island sanctuary, but I know many would disagree.
I'd also be totally fine with an expansion or patch coming out several months later than usual for it, but again I don't know what others would think.
But it does beg the question is it worth doing? Clearly to the FFXIV dev team it is not worth doing currently, maybe in the future but I am not holding my breath. I also highly doubt a large portion of the community has used even close to 400 slots, unless they straight up horde every possible drop so maybe SE's data reflects this is a niche issue and not a major one that needs such an aggressive approach. They would have to relocate resources from one aspect to another. Sure this could largely also be seen as a funding issue, SE is not putting enough back into the game that is making them profits, but sadly that is the nature to pull profits from the money maker into other projects.I'm not buying this even for a second. WoW touted said technical issues for years before finally relenting and giving in. It took them 7 years to add something even resembling a glamour system (transmog/void storage), and 4-5 years later for the actual log (appearance tab). Just because something is hard or even some semblance of a challenge, doesn't mean it's impossible.
I just don't understand how they have such a huge player base, charge 12.99-20.99 (or more depending on how many retainers you own) and still do not have enough people working for them to work on and improve all parts of FFXIV without sacrificing content :/The actual question people should be discussing: what content would you be willing to jettison from 7.0 or 8.0 for a WoW-style transmog system?
