I'm assuming Varshahn/Vrtra is taking G'raha's place as an all-rounder option for the 6.2 trust using an aged-up vessel, since he's shown both as a DRG and PLD in different portions.

Noticed the plural so my prediction is that the scenario is far more mundane - there seems to be a flock of the Anitoch-type mobs from Lost City of Amdapor mid-tier boss, and that to get up to a floating area - perhaps Troia - we all jump onto the creatures' back to hijack a ride. That shade of lavender also looks the same as to what Estinien and us are riding in the trailer.
Yeah, it looked like Estinien was just saying it to some flying monsters is all. It's definitely a Kain reference but doesn't seem to be the exact scenario.

It could be that either our enemies are feeling and think that we can't chase them as we don't seem to be able to fly. Or something else is happening. I do wonder who the red haired lady with the snake thing is that has also those green vines wrapping around her and through the eye sockets of her mask are. Not seen in the trailer but in a screen shot on the special site. Also I'm pretty certain that messed up tree boss is how you get an Exdeath situation. Or maybe that's what happens to the lady with the vines as there is a woman's body grafted/molded into the many eyed tree boss.

The Lady with the vines is in the Trailer as well, fought as a Boss in that exact form.
I'm taking Lore way too seriously. And I'm not sorry about that.

Looks like the Abyssos line-up is:
P5: Proto-carbuncle
P6: Spider hemitheos (Arachne?)
P7: (Moira) Tree hemitheos (Athena?)
P8: Lahabrea
I’m surprised that they went with the FFIV boss theme instead of the Four Fiends theme. I’m sure we’ll fight Scarmiglione twice, but whether that’s twice inside the Fell Court dungeon or a second time as a trial remains to be seen. The Troia remix was great.

Since Lahabreha breaks his sigil maybe I was correct about they being some kind of inhibitors. Otherwise why would he need or want to do such. This is also the first time we see that they can be interacted with. Makes me wonder if it was the sigil that Emet Selch touches instead of his regular red physical mask when he's being told about Azem's reason for going against the rest's choice about what to do with the volcano.
Are we seeing a proto type of blue mage or just another version of brain jack with the AoE that a player does with the snake growing out of their back. I also don't think it's a full adult version of Varshahn but a teenager model. Unless he even as an adult has another unique face model. His body just doesn't look as bulky as an adult Au Ra male. Not sure why he has two dps versions. Unless they're red herring the party set up as even outside of fighting he first gets shown with a sword and shield then later switches to a lance. They also show five people during some of the void dungeon bits. So, maybe the reaper lady isn't an actual duty support member but is like Magnai in Tower of Babel.

I'd expect P8 to be something less obvious than that. They wouldn't show their hand that quickly.Looks like the Abyssos line-up is:

Considering they've shown Scarmiglione but the Trial is still a secret, I can't help but feel we'll end up fighting him twice; once as the dungeon endboss and one in the Trial. Or he'll just be the dungeon endboss and Barbariccia will end up being the Trial to set up Golbez? as the final one.
One interesting reminder from a YouTube vid was that Golbez has a Dark Dragon familiar in IV; speculated that could be Azdaja's fate within the Void, and if so she could wind up being one of the Trials.

As far as the tree boss goes, and the lady with the vine snakes goes... Uhh... My best guess is they went hard with FFV references for whatever reason.
Their take on the original boss fight with Carbuncle in his first appearance in the series is pretty spot on.
The girl though, it seems like they're mixing Exdeath's tree form with Melusine from FFV. You fight Melusine at the Guardian Tree of Mu which is a great tree hiding the 4 crystals in the Galuf's world. It is the same forest that was home to Exdeath's tree.
As for why, well, the tree form of Exdeath only ever showed up in XIV as a mechanic phase in Deltascape, rather than a whole form.
Another reason would be, Melusine body jacks Lenna in FFV, and it's only thanks to her Hiryu being able to tell the difference that Lenna reclaims her body, and Melusine is forced to fight out in the open. This takes place after Galuf's sacrifice, and also after the two worlds rejoin. Melusine came from the Interdimensional Rift, the space between worlds, an interstice with The Void.
I suppose the idea of world Rejoining and Splitting did come from FFV after all, so it's a raid tier honoring that game.
As far as Lahabrea goes... I would assume he transforms for his battle into Enuo, the sorcerer who originally tamed and harnessed the power of The Void. Originally only an FFV lore point, in the GBA remake he was a secret super boss. He could cast Almagest as well as use a defense slipping attack called Dimension Zero. He also had a few death theme moves. Defeating him unlocks the new job, "Necromancer."
So yeah, it's either all an FFV homage(likely) or completely new stuff that just so happens to mirror that.
