Wow, the development of viera had/has so much potential. I was watching how Miqo'te jumped the other day, and it made me wonder how a viera would jump if they possessed more lepine mannerisms. At least they gave us the angry foot thump that rabbits do.I was spending some time on twitter and saw this post (I won't disclose the author so he doesn't suffer punishment due to the use of mods).
That's what I'm talking about, when I say that the viera's ears could have more animations. Imagine if this were part of the emotes, it would be awesome!
Makes me wonder, too. Man those hairstyles in the screenshot look great.
why's square gotta introduce two races and then just give 'em the shaft because they don't wanna work on 'em. ugh.
This is exactly what the buns need (and hrothgar). I think they're so bland when it comes to animation, they need a lot of work done and I hope Square is reading through all of these for ideas!I was spending some time on twitter and saw this post (I won't disclose the author so he doesn't suffer punishment due to the use of mods).

From what another Hrothgar said, the reason we don't have that is because Square is working with a very specific polygon and bone count. To make these animations, you need ear bones and flexible polygons, like Miqo'te have. I couldn't tell you why Viera don't have them, but it seems for Hrothgar they had to repurpose old Roegadyn polygons and bones elsewhere, leading to static cardboard ears. Repurposing features and aspects of the model isn't new; a lot of the customization you have in character development is just a repurposed menu. And it seems they keep tweaking this aspect to fit newer demands, repurposing stuff and deleting stuff to accomodate for it.
The solution is honestly very simple: just add those in and make these races without old limitations. However, we're unsure whether they can or can't, or if they're unwilling to, or even if they have the know-how on their team to do this anymore. And Square just won't tell us. All they'll say is that it's "too hard". We assume that the eventual lift for these races might address these issues, especially since we're no longer working with 2010 limitations (minimum requirements were increased, PS3 limitations no longer exist, spaghetti code was mostly cleaned up and the engine is different), but that's no guarantee, as Square just won't share any information. The only info we've had so far seems to only affect the textures, and that's not really the same thing as adding stuff to the models.
We know modders are able to do some stuff, but they don't work with those frameworks in mind.
I too would love them to add these, especially for Viera as it would make them just as expressive as Miqo'te are, but with an even more noticeable (and cuter) result. But I'm not Square Enix, and the problem goes beyond creativity. It's technical. As many people said before, they designed things these way and stuck to it. Except now that they realized fans are demanding for more, they try to meet those expectations but still work with their old rules. Whether Square is reading this or not is one thing, them acknowledging that people want this and they need to accomodate their rules for new ideas is another. Because the real problem isn't that they see this. They can see this and just say "it's not possible" or "it will be once we cleared things up in the future". The real problem is that our races are constantly being post-poned important stuff for content they clearly set on their minds to do, and they refuse to acknowledge this. The more they delay "fixing" these races, it will be more stuff they make that will have to be readjusted.
By all means, we should have the priority. Yet we're put at the bottom of the waiting list.
? What?
"World Of Warcraft: Dragonflight will be removing gendered language from its character creation menu"
"In the existing game, when creating a character players are presented with either ‘male’ or ‘female’. However, Dragonflight will be changing this to ‘body 1’ and ‘body 2’."
"the game will let players choose between he/him, she/her or they/them, as well as a preferred voice"
"However, it’s notable that the game already avoids referencing the player using pronouns, instead choosing to call them “champion” or “hero”."
...so they're still keeping genders, expanding on the genders the game will feature and allow for a lot of personal customization for your character.
You still will have men and women, you'll just accomodate for people who want to play non-binary characters or anything else altogether. They're expanding the thing, not removing it.
That isn't "removing genders" :| That's just throwing away a binary system and ask people what they want the text to feature. A feature quite a few people in 14 would probably appreciate too, ngl. I know a few Hrothgar players who play a trans warrior of light, even without femgars available. And would likely keep doing so even with them being available. Or who knows, Viera characters as males are the most androgynous in the game.
Posting in support!
jesus what a waste of design resources to vanity signal.? What?

yea i have a major complaint to make too every day i get tells from random people i wont say any names but theyr saying i dont have enough oomph or that my boobs arent big enough and not enough jiggles and that im a disgrace to vieras and that i should delete and make a new race and im really getting tired of it
theres a simple fix really all hairstyles should be available for vieras and hrothgars as well or either they allow cosmetic and Body mods those are actually harmless they dont affect the combat in anyway or that they increase how much of the sliders you can increase
and vieras should be allowed to wear all caps ive missed so many glam opportunities because vieras cant wear caps
its as simple as that
This sounds like a very specific issue for you alone. :X Maybe socialize with less annoying people? I can't imagine there are complete strangers coming up to you on the daily in order to insult your lack of boobs, oomph and jiggles. lol.yea i have a major complaint to make too every day i get tells from random people i wont say any names but theyr saying i dont have enough oomph or that my boobs arent big enough and not enough jiggles and that im a disgrace to vieras and that i should delete and make a new race and im really getting tired of it
