Only if it's what that sub cares about. Mostly meta meta meta raid raid raid prog raid meta and they still resort to downvote abuse if you criticise aspects of the game they like.
They're just like any sub reddit with more than 1000 members really. Reddit is only good for "discussing" if you want an echo chamber to validate your own opinions. The downvote was designed to be used at comments that don't contribute with the discussion and that has not been it's practical use in many many years.
The reason a few posters here get all bothered by "muh toxic negativity" is because they have zero tolerance for people who don't see eye to eye with them in a subject they care about.

Wow. I have to whole-heartedly disagree. I'm having trouble even seeing this as having any connection to reality. There's no myth there. The people in FFXIV are leaps and bounds above many other MMO communities, and I've likewise played many these past 20 years, from WoW to both GW's to SWTOR to ESO, and probably a couple others, too. The support for new players in particular is unparalleled here in my experience. And funny thing - I went through the thread as well and it seems the opposite of your claim is far and away the common experience...Went through this thread and various posts has proven my analysis even further correct. I can tell merely by the amount of upvotes that what I said rang true for many people. I even see someone tagged this thread with 'git gud'. This community has never been a step above other online games. It's a myth honestly related in fanboyism. Us Vs them mentality.
But I am not surprised because to expect more from gamers is like to expect money to fall from the sky.
And that will be my final comments here after this quote below.
No. It's not any better than WoW or any other online game for that matter. I've played MMO's for over two decades and have experienced many of the genre's offerings. There is nothing superior in any way shape or form to FFXIV's community to any other online game.
I imagine people like to think this is the case because they enjoy this game. Or perhaps they themselves are unsavory. It's a myth that this game has ever been a great community or a step above.
I think its a heavy does of conformation bias. and anyone that does not see what they say is "fanboy" or a "them". For the OP, anyone disagreeing or not seeing this on a daily basis, is against them and lying as opposed to simply not experiencing things as they id.Wow. I have to whole-heartedly disagree. what I suspected at the start may be the case... I mean.. its been shown that the community you exist in is the one you bring to the community. a majority of posters seemed to say that bad behaviour and rude people they had run into, but no where at the level of the OP. which is the same in ANY community. if you see this happen on a daily basis, I suspect the problem is not the community, but somewhere closer to home.
and OP, your words may have more weight if you were not posting on a single job level 7 character. which was a very big thing to do on the WoW forums for trolls, since they then could not be questioned on their actual intent. I am sure if I could remember my log in back then I could refute your assertations with a character just as low with that age...
The community is better in general than what you'll see in many other online games if you play them long enough. It's not a confirmation bias. There's a remarkable difference when you first come here after playing a decade in a game like WoW.I think its a heavy does of conformation bias. and anyone that does not see what they say is "fanboy" or a "them". For the OP, anyone disagreeing or not seeing this on a daily basis, is against them and lying as opposed to simply not experiencing things as they id.

But that doesn't mean the community is without flaws or toxic elements. Those still exist but the degree is less. Part of that is due to the game design, which encourages friendliness and cooperation versus a WoW that never truly left its PvP roots and had a "there's no rule against being a jerk" policy when it came to GM assistance.
If you're just gonna ignore all the multitudes of these things never happened to me and only approve of the ones that support you, and you keep seeing toxicity everywhere you go then maybe the call is coming from inside the houseWent through this thread and various posts has proven my analysis even further correct. I've been around for a while too. For me this game isn't toxic the same way other notoriously toxic communities like old wow(idk how it is now), LOL, or csgo were, but it just has really bad toxic positivity, and a whole lot of passive aggressive behavior. Also a lot of players are just .... weird for lack of a nicer word. Also, of course, all that with a dash of classic typical toxicity that you encounter here and there just like any other game.
I can't really click with a huge chunk of this community because I'm not aroused by animal genitalia nor am I into futa. I'm not into most anime, or into any "cutesy" stuff whatsoever. All that put together results in me playing solo most of the time, other than here and there where I catch a couple of friends online. As an introvert, I'm perfectly fine with this compromise.
Even though they weren't perfect by any means, I prefered the community of 1.0, ARR, and even wow. But hey those days are gone and I've long since accepted that and have fun my own way. I'm not going to quit one of my fav games just because I'm not a fan of hordes of ppl who showed up years after I started playing.

The subreddit has it's own Overton Window. If you complain about something that the community there has "deemed accepted" then it's fine (e.g. Kaiten, Healers, etc), but if you complain about something outside of that then it's likely to be buried. However, a not-so-small amount of those threads are buried because people are garbage at giving criticism in a discussion format. Saying "This is trash" is something that belongs in your blog, not in a discussion format.
If you think this game is an openly toxic MMO, you have never played an actually toxic MMO like the many PvP F2P Korean MMOs.
I say openly because behind closed doors this game can be hella toxic though.
To be fair, you are cherry-picking the negative encounters and experiences. Mind pointing out the positive ones as well?1. From the very start of 2.0 I've had people tell me to kill myself or that I should quit. One instance i remember is doing Amdapor Keep for the first time and we all wiped on the last boss cause the Tank rushed in and no one knew the mechanics. Told me directly I should quit and how horrible I was when I asked if we could try again. This was very common behavior in this time period.
2. Poor GMing. You'll have some people catching bans but them you take a look at Balmung shout chat and see people talking about animal genitalia, their mods that give their characters animal genetalia, you can see people in the shout chat talking about other fetishes nonstop all day and people who have done it for years which I won't name but just spend a few seconds there and you'll see some disgusting dialogue being spammed. Even in say chat.
3. People promoting their Discords 24/7 in party finders, shout chats. These same discords dictating content like Eureka nonstop. Making it hard to even get anything done since a Discord decides it wants to control BA and you're not allowed. You have people insta pulling everything so people miss out cause no one cares.
4. Hunts all the years of them getting instapulled and people missing out.
5. From Coils, to Alexander, to Omega, there and so on. Extremes as well and Savages. You'll find more and more unsavory people cursing at each other and they don't get banned. Telling people to quit the game.
6. You got people screaming at novices cause they don't know every mechanic before a fight in a basic 4 man leveling dungeon cause they are so tired of farming tomes they take it out on others.
I'm sorry but this community is not good in any sense of the word nor has it ever been no matter what anyone says.
And with that, I am done with this game. Been here since 1.0 but I'm ready to move on to something else like offline games.
Anyway, if you are really done with this game I suppose I won't see a direct response, so I hope you have a great time in whatever you do.![]()
Journey to all fish: 1383/1729 (348 remaining) [79%]
Yes, it is.
And having also played multiple MMOs over a decade, the only thing this proves is that WoW has a worse community than other games rather than FFXIV having a better community.
