Does anyone else find a lot of the stuff on the mog station extremely expensive?

To be honest the cash shop shouldn't exist at all.
Near everything in that store should be earnable in game. Any other game that has both a box price and monthly sub that implements exclusive high quality items into a real money shop gets rightfully lambasted. It should be the same with FF14. There is no excuse for it

Frankly I prefer an honest price tag (and keeping in mind that nothing in the store is 'essential' anyway), and knowing exactly what I am buying, over the sleazy gamblebox models that so many other MMOs are committed to.

I'd like to share a story that happened with me once. Hopefully it'll teach people about a certain perspective when it comes to considering what is or isn't expensive.

I was having lunch with some coworkers. The place that was chosen was a fairly pricey restaurant. There were about 8 of us at the table. When it was time to order, a few of them said they would just have a drink and skip out on lunch. Said the food would be too expensive. And you know what? That's fair enough. I was in no position to judge. I was, however, in a position to launch a discussion.

I knew something about one of the guys who was complaining about the price. He loves to party. It was basically his favorite thing to talk about. And here's the thing about clubs - they're far from cheap, with some drinks costing upwards of 20 bucks. Imagine paying 20 bucks for a single drink. And you KNOW you're not just going to have one throughout the night. So you're basically spending upwards of 80 bucks on a single night.

80 bucks. Is it worth it? To me, it's a complete waste. Because not only do I hate drinking, but I also don't like clubs. But to some, it's money well spent. Especially depending on how the night goes. Some people live for those moments they spend on clubs. And so for them, 80 bucks is likely nothing.

Now compare spending 20 bucks on a drink at a bar, with 20 bucks on a virtual outfit for your online game character. Is it really that expensive?

Another thing to consider is whether it's worth it or not. Consider how many free outfits/mounts you've worked hard to get in-game, but never use.

The mogstation items are expensive no doubt about It, the only slack I'll give about them Is that a majority of the items were once free through events for as many alt characters you could do the events on. Which Is fine and cool actually If this game was alt friendly in the slightest which brings me to my tinfoil theory Is that SE doesn't actually want you have to many alt because of their toaster servers.

They should just have the events cycle In all the old items that were tied with said event but you know they won't do that In their subscription based mmo. smile

Am I crazy for thinking 12 usd up to 18 usd for one outfit for a single character is just a bit too much? Is there something I'm missing?

I refuse to buy glams or emotes. I either earn them in game or I don't need them.

I'm honestly shocked by how expensive some things are and it's compounded by the fact that I'm Canadian so it's usually a couple bucks more expensive, too.

I have a lot of friends who are total cashshop whales tho. It's disappointing because they'll critique square and then in the same breath tell you that they have purchased every cashshop item for both themselves AND their two alts.

Thanks cashshop whales with the willpower of a wet piece of toilet paper for making companies gouge us for even generic cosmetic items.

Cash shops create the incentive for the developers to hide the most coveted products behind a paywall. That is an anti-consumer practice. We already paid for the game and we are paying a subscription fee. There's no justification why the cash shop should even exist. Glamour and collecting mounts is a big part of an MMO's experience.

I haven't seen any ultimate totems for sale... Or titles...

And tbh, most of the unique glams outside npc stuff I personally find ugly.

Most of them have like, 1 redeeming piece that is why everyone buys it.


Half the mounts are recolors and they add like 10 mounts (if not more) in game for every mount added to the shop.

I still have yet to buy a mount off the Mogstation, despite spending money on there.

Simply because the FFXIV cash shop doesn't go overboard with the cosmetics that it offers, that doesn't mean that the incentive is not there. From a business perspective, the smartest choice would be to paywall the best-looking mounts and cosmetics and offer the worst for players to get in-game.

It's not that hard to understand.

Cash shop has been in place for 8 years almost. I don't think we really have that much to worry about. It hasn't increased in pace at all.
