Does anyone else find a lot of the stuff on the mog station extremely expensive?

Yes. And I think they're not being smart about it either. I'm generally not too pleased with the existence of a cash shop in a game I already pay a monthly sub for. Yet even so, some items do tempt me. Then I see the price and that temptation is gone.
If the prices were more reasonable, I do think they'd sell more. I might have given in already myself.

I think in some ways that may be the point. these are optional items. period.

if they were made cheaper then the temptation would be stronger to spend money on something you do not really need.

Am I crazy for thinking 12 usd up to 18 usd for one outfit for a single character is just a bit too much? Is there something I'm missing?

Cosmetics and mounts always seem to be a guilty pleasure of people with a little extra cash to spend. They are expensive, but luckily they're not essential, and I hear that they often go on sale. I harken back to the Last MMO I played, and there was a reskinned one-person dragon mount that cost upwards of about 75 dollars. To be fair though, the company itself was greedy.

"Microtransactions" are not so "micro" these days.

If I think about how loot eggs work in TFT and how much money I spent on these because they never drop the one I want for the first time, then yes... this is cheap. Sometimes I gave Riot games over 200 EUR just to level my little legend to level 3 and I dont even play that game anymore... and before anyone starts shittalking, little legends are just skins for your character. Nothing more. No pay to win in it.

For the prices that they are, they should all be account wide. At least all the mounts/gear should be. The dyes are still overpriced, but those I can understand being single character.

Not to forget that every dye you can purchase via the mogstore is also available in-game via the Market Board for, oh, somewhere around 500k gil each for the pure white/black, and not so much (less than 50k gil) for the other colors.

The prices are already pretty expensive imo, now add to that the lack of regional pricing and that makes it a 100% chance for me to not buy anything there.

I treat mogstation purchases like a donation box. I don't hand SE $22 for some outfit. I hand them 22$ because for going on 9 years I've gotten the best MMORPG I've ever played for a fair price and I'd like to thank them. The outfit is just a bonus. Or the emote. Or $40 chocobo carriage.

This is legitimately one of the strangest posts I've ever seen here. Do you tip your landlord? Go to a petrol station and tip the dude behind the counter for standing there really well? Slip a tenner to the company that made your car because it's pretty comfy and runs well?

You already pay them a sub, donating to a huge corporation is weird. SE is not part of the bizarre tipping culture the us has, and in fact many countries are not part of the US at all, with all the cultural differences that implies.

a sub entitles you to everything you wish to do in game.

nothing on the store is needed to play. nothing. how other people choose to spend their money is their choice, but really, aside from that, no reason why having a sub is even part of the conversation

I'm a shameless FFXIV whale. Probably upwards to thousands spent on this game since ARR to buy mounts, glams for different characters, emotes. If it's too expensive for some people to buy, that really sucks, but it's all optional and provides no stats at the very least.
