If we let the decision on which job should be a tank up to idiots who say dumb crap like "should have been a DPS", we wouldn't have any tanks.

Arguably there's another exception: WHM vs BLM. Sure, they call one a "cane" and the other a "staff" - but that's purely semantics. You actually touch on this yourself when you say that Sage could've used staves - I imagine you meant canes since they're a healer, but they're indistinguishable.
fwiw I love the weapon creativity in FFXIV - just pointing out that there's precedent for weapons that are basically the same, just called something different, shared by different jobs - even different roles - beyond arcanist.
The more I think about it, the more DRK + GNB = [dps] seems legit, with a combat style akin to Ruby Rose but with a giant gunblade instead of an ordnance-empowered scythe.

Exactly! Just because they are similar weapons does not mean they can't be different with different job functions. So limiting potential classes because of the weapon type seems counter productive.
Well I am still waiting for a Tank Job that uses a Hammer that focus on the iconic FF game skill sets of Break attacks such as Guard Break, Power Break, Magic Break, and etc. It maybe a interesting Tank job to introduce that focus on Debuffing enemies to make them more vulnerable to damage and performing less damage as well with the logic that the generate enmity to enemies because they attract their anger for breaking/damaging the enemy's gear.
They may even be able to make a comedy job story for this about how the Hammer tank job focus so much on Breaking things the Job trainer has a long time reputation being a person who Breaks weapons and armor to call back towards RPG mechanics involving destroying a players gear when they fail to upgrade their gear from a gear upgrade weapon and armorsmith.

I came up with The "Thorn Knight/Green knight" that uses a unique form of Spear and Great Shield and does counter damage by extending spikes via the shield and warps the shape and length of the spear as well. I also have a a hammer tank as well I call it the "Demolisher" its basically like your description but conjures flames using the hammer and uses the the flames to damage enemies as well as protect its self and allies.Well I am still waiting for a Tank Job that uses a Hammer that focus on the iconic FF game skill sets of Break attacks such as Guard Break, Power Break, Magic Break, and etc. It maybe a interesting Tank job to introduce that focus on Debuffing enemies to make them more vulnerable to damage and performing less damage as well with the logic that the generate enmity to enemies because they attract their anger for breaking/damaging the enemy's gear.

To be fair, OP has a point. I was shocked to see the Dark Knight, a great sword user, was a tank class, same with the Gunzerker. I do get that there are many DPS classes already, but it just seems more logical that the great sword using class would be DPS rather than tank.
Maybe they will address that someday and have another class use great swords yet are DPS? I think two magic dps classes uses the books as well, right? Or am I wrong with that?
I think Ninja would count as the double sword using class, although it depends on the weapon you’re using. Some are knives and others are like short swords. Still, seeing two full on swords be used for a class would be pretty cool.In fact, we lack a double sword job, which is kinda surprising in a Final Fantasy game.
But so far we have: Sword&Shield, Greatsword, Japanese Sword, Magic sword, Explosive sword.
Recently I've seen a surge of players wishing for a whip based job after Yoshida mentionned "New jobs never played in the franchise before".
Considering the slow removal of pets, Beastmaster based on pets is a no go. They could as well pick a job inspired by Castlevania and build a sort of "Hunter" from it.
A whip using class would be interesting for sure! Though I have no idea how that would be played. Maybe similar to Monk with rapid attacks? Maybe even with DoT attacks that all stack up on one another as the fight continues.
Well actually, there's still one way I can think of for them to add (sort of) a greatsword DPS lol
Glamour without restrictions* is long overdue!
If you think so too, help keep the thread going!

I’d love a greatsword melee dps with crazy, sick skill abilities. Almost every mmo/mmorpg that i played, i played Greatsword xD just a fan of em
I think we deserve a Giant hammer based job, one thats slower on the tempo side but does alot of damage like BLM. So less OGCD spam like the other jobs are but are hitting with gcds that are like Massive from a potency perspective. Imagine taking a god strike and hitting your opponent for like 4000 potency(Disclaimer: I know DRK wields a greatsword and does alot of damage for a Tank but it is not a dps "ROLE" so please keep that in mind, thank you.)
I love Greatswords and being a dps and the fact DRK is a Tank(when it should be dps class) breaks my heart. So I would like to present some ideas for Greatsword dps classes that would fit into the game.
1. Mystic Knight(Cloud Strife): A fighter that goes into battle by infusing their weapon and attacks with magic/elemental magic while also drawing power from their amazing strength, skill and acrobatics.
Weapon type: Buster Sword
Armor type: Maiming
Ability Type: Magic/Elemental/Strength based swordsmanship
2. Berserker: A furious warrior who swings their sword so fast and hard the very earth turns into magma as well as enemies into bloody chunks.
Weapon type: Heavy Sword
New Armor type: Fury
Ability type:Burning(Magma)AOE and raw physical damage
3. Death Blade: A Tormented warrior who uses Necromancer like abilities to summon spirits enhance their already impressive strength and physical capabilities and chill their opponents to the bone using ice based sword attacks.
Weapon type: Grave Cutter(Greatsword)
New Armor type: Fury
Ability type: Ice, Physical, enhancement and DOT
So these are the ideas I have and I look forward to your feed back as well as your ideas for new classes you come up with!
