Because the servers only report character position every so often. This is due to server infrastructure. It has nothing to do with the location of the servers.

We're getting localized (albeit located in Japan, but regional) servers anyway in 2.0. Why all the fuss? Is it because the players for forced global servers realize they're in the minority?
Most of us don't login at 3am to play with our cousins on the other side of the globe, speak 4 different languages, or simply don't want to deal with the terrible auto translate. For those that do, you'll still have your global servers.

Fair enough .. see Raistlin's post then.
I can't believe people are arguing that regional servers wouldn't be better, are you people crazy ?
Forget about playing with other nations for a moment, we are talking about whats best for the optimal gameplay experience.
And when I say gameplay I don't mean talking to and making friends with others.

The problem is that the most of ppl that play XIV come from XI, aka they didn't play any other MMo outside XI (and XI itself wasn't a "speedy" game) .. So they are ok with this... :/

Why should we forget about something that is integral to a large group of peoples "Optimal gameplay experience" being able to be "Primetime somewhere" is a massive advantage for people who don't play during their regions primetime hours.
So, I'd just have to say.

You obviously have selective comprehension, because there would still be International servers available to those who wanted it.Why should we forget about something that is integral to a large group of peoples "Optimal gameplay experience" being able to be "Primetime somewhere" is a massive advantage for people who don't play during their regions primetime hours.

With who to play them? Japanese players will undoubtetly retreat to their own servers as well would a large majority of others. The situation would be the same a bunch of empty servers with a single "primetime" and a few international servers that are sparesly populated 24/7...how fun.
I don't lack the foresight to see how easilly it would wreck the international community we currently have.
But...bu...teh .3ms!
So you're saying you don't want the option between regional and international servers because others would prefer the regional servers more. Gotcha
Don't blame them, they do not know any different. They are XI diehards with no experience anywhere else. I used to be the same way too, until I played Rift. After downing Akylios I finally understand what a boss fight experience should be and if Yoshi-P can capture that we will be so lucky. Unfortunately we have people here who are so caught up in their ways that they are afraid of any change. It will be nice in 2.0 maybe they can make some fights with some real mechanics.

Same, XI is past... after playing WoW at high level (did Lich king hm first kill italian), i understand what a challenging and hard fight is... FF (xi and xiv ) are only tedious not hard...
