Worst housing system in the world

Number of accounts created is not number of active subscribers. The estimates for active is somewhere between 1 and 2 million. So their gross would be in the 10-30 million USD range. In December 2021 they reported that their MMO sub division's operating revenue (subscription fees and cash shop) of 49,425 yen or 383m USD using today's conversion rate. Still nothing to sneeze at. The interesting note is that FFXIV saved Square's bacon last year since their other games didn't fare so well.

They have the funds and now with Yoshida on Square's BoD CBIII should have the political clout to reinvest more of XIV's profits back into the game. Unfortunately supply chain issues and one of the tightest jobs market in decades is making expansion very difficult.

This is just an observation and not in the least meant as a defense. The massive quit rate over the last three years has been a wake-up call to many firms.

Yeah; I know the supply chain issue definitely exists, so I know it's a fair observation. I do feel like it exists far less for them than some other publishers, though. They did indicate (if I'm not mistaken) that they are intending to purchase, or already purchased, servers for NA that are being set up and will hopefully offset the burden and, maybe, allow them to find space to give us more. I can only hope. They were, iirc, hesitant/resistant to renting servers or buying cheaper ones, even if just as a temporary measure to offset their huge player boom and allow them the room to start fixing things. Which seems odd to me, but, I hope now that they've finally got ones they want, or ones that are their own, we'll see some big changes in (August? I think that's when they were going to launch new NA servers??).

I really hope we see more pro-player want/need advocacy and see them taking us more seriously as time goes on. I have no doubt the game could continue to make them a ton of money, and even surpass itself more and more if we see really good feedback between player and dev. Continuing to foster that relationship can go such a long way- a way I don't think they're managing to completely capitalize on if the state of housing is any indication.

IF they haver any intention to keep player base growing they have to produce everything at a larger quantity for example if its 20 Million players now then who knows in a year or two it could be 40 million then it will be worse . So they should be looking into increasing everything just to make sure its possible.

Yes, NA is getting a new DC with 4 new servers (as you said in August). They intend to increase it at some point in 2023 to 8 total for that new NA DC, of course with DC travel implemented prior there shouldn't be any problems visiting one to continue doing content such as Ex trials/Savage/Ultimate with a static, if I am understanding what they've said about it correctly. Sadly though even with another 4 new servers and even the maximum 8 it still will not be enough in terms of wards for housing. As it stands 4 new servers, if they keep it with this nonsensical 75/25 split for FC/Personals, I think they should inverse it personally, it works out to 7200 personal homes with the 4 new servers, and 14400 with all 8. Then you gotta compound it with the number of smalls which lets be real, no one really wants, as most players I feel want a medium or a large.

if they add lets say another 170 data centres with another 15 Million plots added total across 170 data centres Only then there may be enough for 1 more year. If they continue the same system.
Realize the issue : there is not enough plots for every player in the game for every player theres 1 plot every 1000 player available
the second issue : its a lottery system meaning theres no gurantee that you will win a plot literally ever ... its not like your odds of winning lottery goes up everytime you lose. its sad and disappointing
They wont fix anything besides a temporary 1 day issue thats it after 13 days.

Getting veteran players to transfer to the new data center for NA is going to be a very hard sell after watching what is happening with Materia.

World economies - it will be hard to sell items when players can hop data centers to buy on other worlds with greater supply and lower prices on their marketboards.

Duty queues - queue waits will be excessively long so it would make more sense to hop data centers to where there are more active players queueing.

Party Finder - Party Finder will be near empty outside of the attention seeking messages that get left so it would make more sense to hop data centers where there are more active Party Finders.

The new worlds might appeal to players who prefer playing solo (especially now Duty Assist will allow players to complete everything required for the MSQ except 8 man trials and Crystal Tower solo) but they'll be bad for those who want a MMO experience.

* Housing will be locked down for 90 days to start. This will allow all FCs to build up to rank 6, plus deal with the 30 day requirement with enough leeway.
* When it opens it will also be circa 75% of wards FC so that all FCs who want one get preferential access to large/mediums.
* Smalls in the FC wards will initially stay mostly empty, although a few will be taken up by FCs too.
* Eventually, some FC wards will be moved to Personals, but only with smalls or undesirable mediums left.

Plus of course, the one that is always interesting to watch;

* NA could have more than just the one housing primal head into Goblet, although they miss out on the worlds first that ours achieved

Now 3 years have passed, it would be interesting to find out what the outcome was on the player experience.

How many players ended up transferring worlds just for the sake of getting a house? Among those who transferred just to get a house, was it worth it?

How many players embraced their new world communities and how many choose to become "commuters" to continue playing with their friends on their old worlds (assuming they hadn't changed logical data centers)?

How long did it take for players who transferred to Spriggan and Twintania to feel like they were getting a game experience on par with what they had prior to transfer?

How long did it take for players on Light and Chaos to feel like duty queues and Party Finder normalized after the player population feeding matchmaking was effectively cut in half?

I don't know that all of that is a "dead certainty".

I think the only reason why Materia ended up with the 75/25 split was because they choose to implement the same split globally for Empyreum release. By the time the new EU worlds get added in July and the new NA data center/worlds get added in August, the ward split will likely be different from world to world.

I do expect them to keep housing locked for an extended period as you say. They didn't learn from Spriggan/Twintania when it came time to setting up Materia. They will not have learned from Materia when it comes time to set up EU/NA. It doesn't take 90 days to get a FC to rank 6. It takes 90 minutes with just a little advance prep collecting items for Expert Deliveries (been there, done that with my FC).

It's going to be a rocky start for the new EU worlds and new NA data center when there's no incentive to transfer existing characters. Housing stops being an incentive when it's withheld. Most players are after personal housing so there would be no reason to transfer until the week before housing is opened.
