Yeah but ping is round trip and he's saying its .3 seconds one way. that would be 600ms response time which is pretty sucky for any internet based app.

No. From a client elsewhere to a server in Japan.

He's just guesstimating a number. But if he's really saying its one-way (quote that please), then he's grossly overestimating our pings.

I think you didn't read my question carefully enough.

Did I say they don't exist? No. But I haven't seen any, that means it can't be that serious of a problem. If cheating were as rampant as you're implying, I wouldn't have to look far to find someone doing it.

You can only "hack" information that the servers trust you with. The only things the server puts you mostly in control of are movement and chat. (Hence the speedhacks that were around in FFXI for quite some time)

Tell me then, how do people hack? Don't say botting, because that's a seperate issue and is not a hack.

I think you didn't read my question carefully enough.
Then you're going to need to state your question more clearly, because I can't seem to come to any other interpretation.

ive seen several gathering hacks, ones that let you farm the same node over and over til its out(basicaly, every time you would be done with the node, you can just go right back into the node instead)

There have been issues with "bots" using a modded client to attack targets from anywhere, there are hacks to detect exact locations of gathering spots, etc.
I've played this since beta and met some hackers myself(where it was pretty obvious). It is currently not an issue, yes, but only 'cause the game is pretty dead right now. It's the same with the RMT. There is a lack of customers so their numbers decline.

How much clearer can I be than "from a player in Japan"? Even if that wasn't clear enough, the next question has "from a player outside of Japan", so the context alone should tell you that I'm talking about two different scenarios.

sounds to me more like an exploitable glitch than a hack. Can you prove that these people need some kind of tool, program, or editing of memory space to achieve this?

Obviously they still have work to do in this department- but what yoshi is saying is complete fact. The more information they open up to the client, the easier it is to hack and cheat.

imposible to prove it from my end, but what i saw is what i saw

theyd gather 8 times, put the tool away, bring it back out, gather 8 more times

after that node was gone eventualy, i saw them doing it at another node

either way, both are definately bannable so doesnt matter which it is, but my moneys on it being some sort of hack(the guys entire shell ive caught doing similar things in different areas of the game)

Obviously, that's not where the confusion is. So you're going to have to restate your question.

I'm still not seeing where he's saying .3 seconds is one way. It's also pretty clear to me he's talking about all potential clients, not just ones in Japan. He's using a number that more or less covers all players.

①The time it takes to communicate between the client and server

⇒This can take up to 0.3 seconds for transferring packets, plus the response time.
"Between client and server" can be both directions. If he was only talking about one-way communication, he would say "FROM client TO server, not BETWEEN client AND server."
