Unless there's no confirmation that relocations would be rolled-back to their original place, too there simply cannot be a rollback at all.
On the other hand there's reason to question how many of those rollback-supporters would change their tune if the shoe was on the other foot and they won ^^

You're fighting a losing battle. Most of the playerbase is very entitled.

I would hardly call it selfish when people are trying to make suggestions that decrease the amount of rage that is going to occur, and aren’t for just punishing others out of perceived spite. Some of the responses I’ve seen from those who were unfortunate are extremely hateful and spiteful towards those who managed to not get screwed over simply because they weren’t unlucky.

As you said, this is an MMO, not a single-player game. Others matter, too, and the solution picked needs to be one that will not enrage more people. There isn’t a fair solution regardless of how you look at it. I’m well aware of that. So the best that can be asked for is another “bandaid” to fix a housing system that is already a dumpster fire.

Since you're so quick to throw around pejoratives, let's go through a little exercise. Say they can force the relinquishment of all Ishgard plots and refund every single participate, essentially starting over. However, they cannot rollback previously owned houses. In other words, if you relocated a large from Lavender Beds to Empyreum, you'll have 50M gil, no house and now only a chance at returning to your status quo.

Would such an outcome be fair? Or is that too entitled as well?

And before anyone says they could rollback everyone to their previous state. We don't actually know the limitations here. A rollback of that significance isn't simply you can just... do. If they could Thanos snap Saturday morning and return everything back to exactly how it was prior, we could entertain a rollback. Unfortunately, we have no idea if that's possible. Considering how egregious this mistake is, it's hardly unwarranted to assume they didn't prepare a backup in case something went wrong.
