The reason why this is possible is so that a party doesn't have to wait 30-60mins while one member of the party travels to a camp that everyone else was able to get to instantly. This could potentially lead to the person being kicked in favor of a player who has previously been to the camp, and that could cause a lot of strife for new players.

Systems like this do not exist in order to cheapen anything. They exist because the alternative, while better in theory, actually causes more problems. If you want to explore, go explore. No one is stopping you. Just don't try to disrupt the flow of the game for everyone else because you think it was more fun when you had to go uphill both ways in the snow with no legs.

    Exactly.

In FFXI exploring was only fun when it was on YOUR time. I remember my first time getting a party in the desert(camp remember the name) and trying to find my way to my party was very stressful. It took me a good 40+ minutes to get to them and I just knew they were going to kick me after awhile. Luckily they were patient enough to wait.

However, I have been in parties waiting for "that guy without the tele" and the party leader kicks him for someone closer/capable of getting there faster.

I had fun on my hour long runs trying to reach a new area in FFXI, but I was sweating bullets when I had a group of people waiting for me.

    Ahh...good old status quo.
wow, cause realizing they're never going to change a silly feature in a video game is EXACTLY like saying "why fight Jim Crow, it's never going to change?....durrr...", damn guy get some perspective.

Actually I have to say, do you have any idea how incredibably offensive and rascist that was? It implies that that people who don't see anima and it implementation is ever going to change after a year and a half are racists who would be happy with repressive laws, but it compeletly belittles the entirety of the civil rights movement as being the same as a fight about a feature in a goddamned video game... Gross, that's all I can say... Gross

AGREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE... i remember like 9 years ago my first trip from Windurst to Jeuno was wonderfull, and all the way to get my teleport... too weak in this way. I agree. but i think the Anima recovery is too slow. or may be, do an alternative teleport way, like WHM spells, or something like that. because 6% of all the anima in only 1 teleport is too expensive. really.

So the reason for teleports is so that newer players can get to party points. This becomes less of an issue past early levels due to the fact that aether nodes cannot be teleported to without going there first. And if you really think that exploring is too easy due to teleports, go try doing the exploration achievements, you'll soon change your mind.

Okay, in 11, if you got dropped for not knowing how to get to a party and/or not having a gate crystal, that's not SE's fault for designing using that system. That's your fault for joining a party before you're ready. I mean really... The anima isn't that big a deal, its just the porting anyone anywhere, and the lazy players it contributes to breeding. I won't ever like it. How does an MMO keep someone's attention without giving them hurdles? Yeah, I know this is just a small piece of that puzzle, but it's a combination of everything this game is geared toward. Quick leveling, easy exploration, retrying dungeons and battlefields with a 5 minute wait, and no penalty for failing. It makes it too easy to either reroll, or move on to a new game.

Do you think players would have conquered Aurum Vale yet if there was a penalty for failing? Even just a measly 2 hour wait?

Agreed. I love exploring, and the LS I'm in has events once a week to chocobo around to aether crystals so we can unlock them all. When I do teleport in the manner described by op (to some place ive not been), it's to help out with a raid of some sort. Why should I be forced to hoof it across the game world and waste my own as well as 7 other party member's time just for the sake of "exploration?"

There are some times where "fun" needs to trump other arguments, and this is one of them.
