I just want more housing slots for all houses
From the housing topic on Lodestone:
Not every world is going to have the same needs or ratios of FCs to players to houses available. I was surprised that SE stated they would vary it by world in the future but also glad to see they thought out the possible problem.* Methods of purchasing land and/or purchase availability may vary by World in future updates.
Again, not something that will ever happened on the existing EU and NA worlds but certainly something that could happen on Materia, the lower pop JP worlds, and possibly the new EU and worlds.
That's good to know. It would definitely come in useful in lowly populated worlds like Materia where I suspect there will still be thousands of empty plots even after one or even two rounds of lottery. From the housing topic on Lodestone:

You were there when the developers dropped the ball 7 times. They could fix the issue, they just choose to keep making more issues instead. If 7 attempts of "fixing" something didn't alleviate issues, It's more of a system issue and oversights than the players complaining about a faulty system.I was there when people complained that FCs weren't buying all the houses and they couldn't have one of their own, so they added personal housing.
I was there when people complained that players who had quit the game owned their plot in perpetuity keeping them from owning a home, so they added demolition.
I was there when people complained that there were no housing plots left, so they added apartments.
I was there when people complained about the widespread reselling of plots, so they added the random timer.
I was there when people complained that the random timer caused players to sit and click a placard for obscene amounts of time while having to compete with auto-click scripts/bots, so they added a lottery.
I was there when people complained that players could relocate instantly and bypass the timer, so they disabled relocation to plots of land not yet available for sale (ie, still on the timer).
I was there when people complained of shell FCs being created and sold for insane amounts of Gil or real money, so they added restrictions to FC ownership and FC requirements for plot purchase.
The lottery is a direct result of years of player complaints and adjustments on the part of SE. People are going to whine, complain, and light dumpster fires no matter what happens, barring fully instanced individual housing. That being said, a lottery is the most equitable system available at the moment with the current constraints. Personally, I love the idea and accept that I may not get a plot, but at least everyone who puts their money down for it has an equal chance of winning it and I'll get to keep playing or even spend time in the real world and not "have" to click a placard for ungodly amounts of time on the off chance I beat someone else out. That's a good trade off in my book.
If you don't get a house with the lottery, please keep your hands off the keyboard and keep your complaints to yourself. "You may think you want it, but you don't.".

Their only mistake is to open house function to personal and that is it.
The other attempts just they are trying to deal with player base’s sudden change of mood.
A lot mistakes were made because they “listen” to playerbase, other mistake are release of Hrothgar and Viera, etc.
If they hadn't opened the mostly empty wards to personal purchase, things would have gone the way they already have - players creating shells FCs for the purpose of gaining access to a house and we would have ended up with 80% personal houses coated by a very thin veneer of FC.Their only mistake is to open house function to personal and that is it.

The mistake was not planning for personal housing in the first place and then adding it in as an afterthought. All they needed to do was look to the other games with housing to see what players really want. Free companies (guilds/clans/fellowships/whatever the game calls their organized social groups) of course want a place for their members to be able to meet but always the demand for personal housing is much higher. It's a RPG - players appreciate their characters having a place to call home especially when most of the game play has them wandering around like vagabonds.
LMFAO no way this was a serious post. You would have smalls costing 30mil on average. As for Medium and Large plots, forget about it. This would cause problems in more ways then one. 6.1 is live in a matter of days and you can already see players realizing they are screwed when it comes to housing. Remember the login queues? Everyone is going to be entering these lotteries. People would take off work to rush through the gates just to cop a plot. Now? Login whenever and enter the lottery. You M A Y have two chances for due to those trying to relocate.. after that? Who knows when another plot opens and when it does the whole server will enter for that one spot. Everyone thought lottery was a good idea yea we'll see.
For used to be clickers : their chance is now worse
For non clickers : their chance is now better
Lets just say that housing will now be the new jumbo cactpot. Anyone can win it given the luck.
If you think its unfair, you might want to direct your blame tk RMT house sellers. They are greedy. They use bots on lots of alts, hoard houses and make real money out of them. They are the main reason why the systems being changed. So this change kinda makes me feel glad in a way that it will screw those greedy RMT house sellers over.

TLDR: I do not want to hear anything about Balmung because it is an unique problem that only exist in Balumng (get off this over crowded server for your own sake if you want a house)If they hadn't opened the mostly empty wards to personal purchase, things would have gone the way they already have - players creating shells FCs for the purpose of gaining access to a house and we would have ended up with 80% personal houses coated by a very thin veneer of FC.

Unfortunately, I do not agree with you on this as you tend to shift all blames on SE when we as players also contribute to this issue.
For a fact, majority of players do not care about Housing because decoration is not everyone cup of tea.
FF14's original plan for player housing is always FF11's Mog room style of sandbox but with more customize functions; therefore, Private Chamber is introduced at patch 2.3 (before Personal Housing Ward)
Private Chamber is also an attempt from SE to stimulate players to form FC and occupy remaining empty housing plot but it only proves the fact majority of players do not care about personal housing (even it is instanced).
Only small fraction of players cares and actually spend time and effort with Private Chamber.
I have paid visit to pretty much all house wards on Leviathan when I need inspiration to decorate my house/apartment/private chamber.
I can tell you for fact, that only few FC members actually obtained a Private Chamber in these FC occupied House.
Ward Housing only becomes popular after players recognized it as a finite resource, in another word, exclusivity.
Our nature shows no resistance towards the idea of exclusivity and that is the only main reason people feels the urge that they need a house but often left it undecorated after they obtained one.
Apartment as remedy did not work only because it is not "exclusive" and anyone can get one when they want; therefore it is lack of attraction.
Their major mistake is nevertheless that they opened this can of worms same way they did to Viera and Hrothgar (they shouldn't be playable race to begin with)
Only a game in downfall need these pointless attraction such as playable race every expansion.
Although to be honest, I think this game is not dong well at patch 2.2 and it didn't get a boost until Heavensward

The current system actively incentivised the use of third-party programs, as well as frankly unhealthy habits like camping placards for 12 hours at a time.
I'm glad it's gone. and with a lottery system, I can at least put my bid in and go do other stuff, instead of standing around for 4+ hours minimum clicking a placard (riveting gameplay, I know!)/
And hey, if pure RNG means you don't get a property, then at least other players can commiserate alongside you, instead of having these endless complaints about 'third party' stuff (though I do still think a scaling tax to penalise house hoarding is a good idea).
