If devs take new worlds into consideration when thinking about housing availability and they now have a better picture of demand with lottery data, I think it's also important for them to consider how many people are actually willing to move worlds for housing versus those who aren't.

Not only do I have connections to my world, but what guarantee do I have of finding housing in the new one? It would be ridiculous to swap servers for housing only to lose out on housing. Plus, I've lived through the expansion and retraction of WoW. You do not want to be on an underpopulated server when the game population starts to contract.

3. I did, and now I have a large FC house and in 11 hours likely a large personal - both in mostly empty wards.

Edit: I jump on my Aether character when my NA friends are on, then jump on my Materia character for my OC friends, and dungeons. No loss of social at all, in fact, it's risen.

I wouldn't. I've made friends here and I'm in an FC that I like. Why would I go and play an MMO solo just to own a fake building in a game.

Frankly, I don't understand the handful of people I knew who talked about moving to Materia for a house. I want to decorate, but not badly enough to basically play this game solo. Have you seen duty/partyfinder? lmao. Imagine dealing with that bs solo every day. Whenever I see "just move to an empty dc" as a solution to the housing shortage, I just roll my eyes and keep scrolling. What I never understood was why every world has the same number of housing wards, despite worlds varying in population, and every world having different priorities. Some places just don't have people invested in the housing side of things, so it's much easier to get a house there. Why do they have the same number of wards as balmung, where it's notoriously difficult to own a home because everyone and their grandmother wants one? Why aren't these numbers adjusted on a case by case basis?

I suspect they aren't going to do that because they know we won't like the answers.

It seems the devs are stuck on the ward system and only the ward system, even when it leads to the playerbase regularly tearing into each other because houses are in short supply. I'm tired of seeing threads popping up and proposing ways to take houses away from those that 'don't deserve' them.

It appears they did have the resources to give everyone their own instance (island sanctuary) but it looks like this instance won't give players a house, the thing that most people want.

I know the housing shortage is not so acute on the Japanese servers due to them having much smaller populations. It really does feel like the U.S. and E.U. players are getting little to no consideration at all.

I have also wondered if there is a cultural aspect at play here. The Japanese are used to far smaller housing than someone who grew up in North America on average. I also suspect that someone in North America or Europe expects a larger yard with their house.
