I was there when people complained that there were no housing plots left, so they added apartments.

I was there when people complained about the widespread reselling of plots, so they added the random timer.

I was there when people complained that the random timer caused players to sit and click a placard for obscene amounts of time while having to compete with auto-click scripts/bots, so they added a lottery.

I was there when people complained that players could relocate instantly and bypass the timer, so they disabled relocation to plots of land not yet available for sale (ie, still on the timer).

I was there when people complained of shell FCs being created and sold for insane amounts of Gil or real money, so they added restrictions to FC ownership and FC requirements for plot purchase.

The lottery is a direct result of years of player complaints and adjustments on the part of SE. People are going to whine, complain, and light dumpster fires no matter what happens, barring fully instanced individual housing. That being said, a lottery is the most equitable system available at the moment with the current constraints. Personally, I love the idea and accept that I may not get a plot, but at least everyone who puts their money down for it has an equal chance of winning it and I'll get to keep playing or even spend time in the real world and not "have" to click a placard for ungodly amounts of time on the off chance I beat someone else out. That's a good trade off in my book.

If you don't get a house with the lottery, please keep your hands off the keyboard and keep your complaints to yourself. "You may think you want it, but you don't.".
Need to be careful thinking that it is every player making the exact same complaints. There have been players that were happy with the system then upset with the subsequent change.

Don't they deserve their chance to get feedback when SE had listened to and acted on the feedback of others.

There definitely will be players who are complaining they can't get a house with the lottery because they were not the ones asking for a lottery - you don't get to tell them to shut up.
