VIERA AND HROTHGAR COMPLAINT MEGATHREAD

Yes. Player mods are amazing, there is one that literally allows all viera to finally wear hats- and it looks quite good.

For real. When I first heard about it I thought it would be a quick and dirty job, you know, just letting the ears clip through and calling it a day.

Imagine my surprise when I saw that it adds a secondary hairstyle (the one that shows up when you put on a hat) for all the available viera hairs and that the hats added by the mod (which are A LOT) have little holes so that the ears can poke through instead of clipping. Compare this to the handful of hats SE has made available for Viera over the last 2 and a half years and the quality is quite literally night and day.

I genuinely can't blame anyone that uses mods after what they have shown this last live letter, honestly.

Modders aren't usually constrained the same way game devs are, both from a financial perspective and working hours. I think that is a big part of it. But still, in SE's shoes, I would utilize that talent if possible. Maybe recruit these modders or something. Heck, some of them might be willing to do it for free. They already are. lol

It really feels like Hrothgar are a blight on Yoshi P. He clearly doesn't care for the players that play them especially since we have to shell out 10 dollars for a fantasia to even change to the extremely limited hair options we have. Viera also get the shaft but not as hard as Hroth. I 100% believe that he regrets ever creating them.

Also yeah where are the promised unique hairstyles after 3 years? I'd LOVE to see them. (and they wonder why people find 3rd party programs to do this).

Also on the topic of hats, I understand not going through the entire backlog of hats from before SHB and making them compatible, but creating all of the new armor sets and not having them all work on Hroth and Viera seems intentionally lazy. Your artists are already making the hats compatible with every race, why leave Hroth and Viera as an afterthought? This is especially frustrating with the lv80/90 job sets.

They keep saying that this game is an RPG first, but to me and so many others I know RPGs prioritize expression and character customization. The restrictions on Hroth and Viera feel very frustrating the longer time goes on and more is added for the other races and being constantly left out. The restrictions we have feel extremely dated in this age of gaming too, I really can't think of an RPG that does this sort of thing, Square has really dug themselves a niche in an embarrassing way. Their design philosophy on character customization feels like a weird mix of modern day, (with every other race other than Hroth and Viera) and 90s with Hroth and Viera being trapped in that restrictive 90s way of design.

TLDR don't call yourself an RPG if you don't maintain all of the basics of what an RPG is. (and don't make promises you can't/don't want to keep)

While yes, modders doesn't have as much constraints compared to the devs but...
The devs could just... you know, use the little time they have to replicate what the modders can? I'd take one or two hairstyles that's properly done than 6 copy paste hair with chopped ears they come up with.
