Yes indeed. As I said before here: They say not to use mods, but encourage us to use them with things like that. It's been a while since they've come less and less, worrying about details. They took the ears off of the mi'qote, lalafell, and elezen from various helmets, and now they take the ears off the hrothgar. I wonder what they will do from now on.

I'm reminded of the degradation of TERA... where they kept adding cash shop items that smashed the Amani female's distinctive weird clawed elephant feet down into normal legs in high heels. Ouch! Also, Hrothgar bad prank aside, I'd be surprised if viera get more than one or two 'legacy' hairstyles complete with massive 5head.

So if they're going to just cut off the ears for these new hairstyles, why can't Viera and Hrothgar have hats? At this point, if the art team isn't going to give us new hats with the ears, just chop off our ears when we're wearing them. It's honestly better than nothing.

The best part is they've already done this and have allowed ears to just clip through. The Shadowless set lets Viera ears just clip through and the Paglthan maiming and fending sets just outright delete ears. Its depressing that people will still defend SE for this and not call them out for being lazy.

Rarely ever post here but I'm honestly disappointed in the dev team for how lackluster and poorly implemented the new Hrothgar hairstyles will be on release. Was very much looking forward to what we would get, and I had thought maybe at worst, they would just adapt the hairstyles that already exist to the rest of the Hroth faces. Upsetting.

We should've seen this coming when they kept amputating miqote ears with hats and when they added the tail amputating cape tbh..

Due to NPC's in Bozja having hairstyles on different faces, I was expecting they could just rework the scalps or extend the current hairstyles to clip into the bodies or ommit gaps or imperfections. Then they make two or even just ONE special hairstyle that fits all faces...But this? Its more 'content,' sure, but this is squeezing a square peg into a circular hole. Things will get trimmed off to make it fit...LITERALLY!

This just shows that the game does not need a graphics overhaul/upgrade, it needs an engine overhaul to deliver and expand the bare minimum on character customization.

I feel like the lack of ears looks so bad that they wouldn't be doing it if they didn't have to for some reason.

Are the ears constructed as part of the hairstyles? Would having them visible mean their ears change shape when you change their hair?

It's my best guess at why they might be forced to do it that way rather than looking right.

The phrase "be careful what you wish for" does come to mind. It kind of shows that they weren't ever built to properly fit human hairstyles.

There probably is a reason for it, maybe even a really good one, but I'll never understand why they don't just tell people about it and explain what the issue is so they can maybe understand why they did it this way rather than feel they're being clowned on.

They did this with Viera as well and never explained what the big difficulty they had to overcome was before they started adding hair, but at least we got to keep our ears I suppose.

Oh, definitely. I'd love to see them be more forthcoming about why they have to do things in convoluted ways instead of just acting as if there's no problem with it. I'd just find it interesting.

this is honestly the most disappointing thing they have ever done. I am praying that this is just a really bad April Fools day joke and that they aren't actually going through with this. Not only is it massively disrespectful to the Hrothgar players who have waited patiently for NEARLY THREE YEARS to get new hairstyles (and to hopefully have the hair/faces separated), and to not only be given the WORST hairstyles on Hrothgar, but to compound it by chopping off their ears just screams that they consider Hrothgar to be an afterthought.

I also noticed that they said nothing about whether or not we can actively switch hairstyles at the aesthetician from 6.1 onwards, which makes me feel like they havent even bothered to work on fixing that. No other race in the entire game has to buy a fantasia just to change hairstyles, so to leaving it unaddressed and putting us in a position where we'll be forced to buy a fantasia just to chop off our ears to wear these LAZY hairstyles is nothing short of disgusting

If this is what we are given on 6.1, i will be buying a Fantasia alright, but i'll be switching to another Race while writing off Hrothgar as a massive disappointment and losing a huge amount of respect for the FFXIV team.

Make your account > install the game > choose a race > get punished for choosing the wrong race (Viera and Hrothgar) > buy fantasia > switch to older races > get all the content
