Any mini game gets boring when it is the only thing you can do. Crafting is and always will be a Niche part of an MMO. You like it or you don't. The difference for Final Fantasy over any other MMO is people who Already Like Crafting actually get to craft and not just watch the game do it for them.

The only solution to the crafting is Boring and Repetitive problem is Content.
As somebody said earlier in the thread, some sort of puzzle game would do it for me. Something like a sliding puzzle would work. The less moves, the higher the quality. If you make too many moves, your synth would fail. The puzzle could be more complex the farther you are from the optimal level for the synth.

"Some sort of puzzle game" is not a fix for this problem.

It would make it 10x worse.

Just think for a a minute, what it would be like to play the same puzzle over and over again just to level up. Then you would have to do it again any time you wanted an item. Worse than that, every recipe would have to have a specific puzzle for it just to ensure that the Skill level required did not vary every time you made the item. You would end up with two scenarios to choose from.

Every puzzle is posted step by step online and instead of solving it, you just follow it step by step.
    -or-
Every puzzle is random and you have to re-figure it out every time you wanna make the same item.

No, it would be such a pain in the ass that no one would craft.

One of, if not the, most common complaints is that it takes to long. Making it a puzzle you had to solve would double the amount of time it took.

The problem with crafting is not the crafting system. It is designed for offering a "challenge" to people who enjoy crafting, not to allow anyone to max all of their crafts with no effort. The only solution for people who do not like crafting is Content.

not if they also increased the amount of xp gained per synth or lowered the xp curve.

In my eyes, the problem IS the crafting system itself. There is no challenge to the system except the challenge of not falling asleep while doing it.

"Challenge" doesn't mean difficult. A Challenge is something to aspire to. With crafting, for me, it being able to Create the Most powerful items I can. For others its cornering the market on a specific type of item. The Mini-Game is not the Challenge and it never will be. They cannot make it hard. They cannot make it in-depth. They cannot make it realistic. They tried that and people raged. They can't make it in to tetris, it would take to long to make anything; and guess what? That was the first thing everyone complained about.

the bottom line is alot of people just dont like the concept of crafting at all
they look at other games(every other game at that) and how its all auto crafting, and they cant think of it any other way

these people are all lost causes when it comes to crafting ideas, and unfortunately they are also the ones who suggest the most changes
