What are you talking about? This isn't a thing at all with other MMO's. If I wanna play ESO on the xbox I have to buy the xbox version and their servers are separated from PC players. Destiny 2 has cross platform saves, but I still have to purchase the game again if I wanted to play on the xbox instead of the PC.

What you're complaining about isn't unique to FFXIV and its not on a per account basis. I can log into my same account on my ps5 as I do on my PC.
