The thing is ppl didn't mass complain. A handful of players were very loud and very vocal about it, so much so that SE just starting nerfing everything thinking it was popular opinion, because at that point if XIV failed, the company was toast and they were doing as much as they could to appease their audience. So, players could come in, be handed everything for barely any effort and the precedent was made and then the newer players started expecting it too and it just snowballed from there. Now it's to the point that if you suggest something be added that has even a remote amount of difficulty they come in hordes to the forums to complain, making SE dumb things down yet again, rinse and repeat.

You don't need numbers, you just need to be able to whine the loudest.

I don't think it's as bad here as on some other sites, like kizuya mentioned. Go on to reddit, ask for more/a broader variety of harder content and you'll be swiftly informed by some of the people camping the threads there that this game isn't for "hardcore raiders" and that you're fighting a lost cause, and to get out the way of their visual novel in essence. Seen that happen a few times now.

I'm curious to see what these Criterion dungeons will be and whether they're their answer for challenging dungeon content, since they intended to address that request. I do wonder sometimes how they actually gauge consumer opinion, because there's lots of ways to go about it and simply restricting oneself to twitter or reddit for it is cutting out a good chunk of opinions.

In regards to the criticism while it isn’t everyone, it’s such a large portion of the playerbase at least in my experience there’s literally nowhere to go and give criticism. Even something as simple as me mentioning how there’s less music in the new raid tier, literally not even 2 mins of me making the thread someone goes and starts claiming i don’t care about Soken’s cancer. People use things like this all the time to deflect criticism, whether it’s Soken’s cancer, the pandemic, etc etc.

One of my irl buds has been playing this game since forever, even had a YT channel dedicated to it, making guides and such and got nothing but praise for them. And when he released his video about Endwalker, which was a mixed review because he gave a lot of positives alongside quite a few negatives, mostly around the msq, he was so bombarded by the fanbase that he just said f these ppl and quit making xiv content completely and will go for weeks without even logging in, and he logged in daily beforehand.

He can handle criticism, he gets it now and then and uses it as a way to either better his content or rethink something he said, but he just had enough of the white knights over the years telling him their game is perfect and he needs to just stfu. It got so bad with Endwalker that he literally just walked away. The amount he cared for and loved this game was crazy too.

This is exactly the point im trying to make too. If all the criticism and problems for the game are gatekept and silenced, the devs arent going to be aware of the problems and the game is just going to spiral downwards. Look at the Scottzone situation. The man literally made countless 14 vids praising th egame, then made a video praising the first Eden tier and all he said was he wished there were more raid floors because theyre so fun and he literally got sent mass death threats and got his home address doxxed.

I know hes a troll. But to me, it doesnt just nullify any of the points he makes. A lot of them i actually tend to agree with.

Sorry to jump back to this Lauront but that's taken from Yoshi's famous presentation about ARR at the Game Developers' Conference in 2013 where he explained about the hard lessons SE had taken with the failure of 1.0 and which guided ARR's development (that was still in advanced beta testing at the time). Players like to use slides from it in an ironic or even mocking way about perceived issues they may have with the game, especially in topics like this one.

Either way, sorry to derail the topic (as if it hadn't already long left the rails anyway!) but I noticed no one responded to your question so I thought I'd try and give some much needed credibility to this thread.

And my point was , thats how you troll (with intent) You choose a hot topic and throw trigger words , deep sarcasm , and very anti fanatic rhetoric in the mix and then you get people that cant help themselves and feel like they must "defend" the honour of the game because big mean said nasty xyz about my baby.

Its a weird thing to witness and its also why its a very cheap and effective tool a competitor can pay for to disrupt their competition's forum



Troll posts and posters fail miserably when they do nothing but fabricate the entire post with nonsense . It works when there's some truth to the topic . Take this post for example , it works because FF14 has a strict cycle , they have it because SQE dont give the team the staffing they should have especially now its their most profitable game ( and we all wish they wouldn't keep doing this) , and with that Korean mmo skiros is shilling/fanboying/girling for announcing that it is slowing up on content and judging by that screen grab the context skiros is suggesting is that every other mmo devs do better.


But whats the reality ? Is that MMO throwing out content no matter the quality and users are getting tired of it??? Or ,are they in a position now due to a massive influx of new players that they are so over worked and this is them saying sorry we need to slow it down this is getting hard on us ! ?



Trolls dont care either way as its easy to arm chair opinions with the safety of anonymity and ignorance especially if they seek endorphin rushes by riling people up they will do it regularly for a free fix . Oddly though its very clear that the user or users behind all these troll accounts are here to disrupt and in my experiences all major MMOs have strict rules about clear and obvious malcontent towards others yet the forum GM/CS seem to be non existent, but if someone gets a bit ticked off it all and says a big mean aggravated word from frustration they can easily get a 7 days ban. Its very odd that the forums get so clogged with obvious trolls and they go unchallenged by support staff.

I wonder if we will ever learn why, one day.
