If you are at the point where nothing in the game interest you then just stop paying for it.
People are always going to run out of media to consume. Hence canceling streaming services until new tv shows come out.
What's the purpose in the sub then? When a game has a sub, it is presumed that content gets released at more frequent periods (or there is something to do) to justify the sub. The "just unsub" argument I have always thought was laughable.

Compared to other MMO's and their content droughts? FFXIV seems to be the more consistent with its patch releases that justify a sub (which is needed to keep an online game going without resorting to numerous amounts of micro-transactions and pay 2 win models). So its not laughable for people to sub and unsub when they know content will be coming anyway. Also maybe I'm one of the few that does this but...I dont play this game every day. In fact I go a week or 2 without playing to do something else to avoid burnout, but I still keep my sub going for the off chance I want to play the game. I figure this is how others usually play MMOs without making it their 2nd job.

I only play this game for a few months a year. I keep my sub going for the forums, and the house I got nowadays. However, I do not stop playing the game for so long because I want to - most of the time (I did get burn out last year from the relic grind) - but because I simply have nothing I want to do. I probably take more breaks from this game than many people here, funnily enough.

The sub's purpose is the same as any other sub in business - access to the content they are presently offering in exchange for the sub. You are not promised new content at any specific pace unless that is part of the sub deal like for magazines. This isn't just for games - but for anything. Like when I'm done with the content I'm interested on Netflix or any of the other 200 streaming services that have come out, I simply unsub until it has enough content for me to want to sub again. I don't go onto the internet to demand they make new shows faster.

New content is expected if a business wants to keep a sub - else people will unsub. FFXIV already said they are fine losing your sub if you are done with the content until you want to play again. That's the whole point of "just unsub."

What I find laughable is trying to demand things at your pace as the customer as opposed to what they are offering as the business. You are free to unsub, but for some reason people would rather not, and complain instead.

FFXIV has shared with it's customers it's present schedule for offering new content. If it's not enough... just unsub. That easy.

They can say what they want, but I seriously doubt that statement.

They said it and they mean it. It's really bizarre that you think there is a conspiracy that FFXIV doesn't think people should unsub and prefers that you remain subbed unhappily so you can complain on the forums.

But since you said the forums are part of the reason you sub, then you are still getting value I guess. Given you have posted over 5000 times, a lot of value lol.

I've always considered myself a casual player. I would personally be satisfied if there was some form of lasting content with quality outfits, and collectibles to go for. I don't even ask for much - I think, but even then the game fails to deliver. A lot of 'casuals' in this game, actually get the most out of their sub by making their own content, rping, or otherwise. It's used as a social hub - those are the players who actually get value out of it.

They do put out content like that. And then people grind the heck out of it, get the rewards they want, and then complain there's no content. Relics, for instance. They put those out with the idea that they're lasting content, but then people rush it to get what they want and then demand more because they finished too quickly. Like Zephyr said, this team of developers realized trying to chase that idea is a losing game. They put out the content and we can choose to partake or not partake.
