Funny you should say that because in all my years I have only ever seen this stated in offhanded remarks. I conclude it doesn't go into the game because I have never been able to verify it.

edit: If I am wrong and it is just that all my search engines are flooded by 14 pages of fan discussion stating such, then I will be pleased.

Point in your favor: They have apparently NEVER stated it was exclusive, just that they WANT to use the money to improve the game. However I will say they also have specifically stated that the data center move for NA and the expansion of that data center were done with cash shop money. So you're right in that there is no ironclad statement to nail them down for it and it's possible SE is just pocketing all the money and frittering it away on other projects, it's not like we've never seen benefits from it.. at least we've been told the game benefits from it. We also have a statement from Yoshi (as idealistic as he really is, I get it) stating intent to use the profit for the benefit of FFXIV.

Oh no, I am not saying that none of the profits go back into the game (that would be insane). There's just this belief that since we have more players = more mog station purchases (including more retainers) = more subs = FFXIV now has an even bigger budget than ever. The whole "All profits from mogstation goes into FFXIV" probably comes from that statement where they said the site helped fund the EU DC (IIRC, or it may be the NA expansion as you say) rather than any explicit statement that it actually is an exclusive funnel into FFXIV. It's probably the first pull for when they need cash, but for all intents and purposes it is for SE to fund all of their projects. That just happens to include FFXIV when the moment arises.

Even if it was true at some point it doesn't mean it still is anyway, it's not like they're gonna come out and say "Hey guys, as of right now the money you spend on Mogstation isn't 100% going back into the game anymore." I don't know why people take it as the gospel truth in perpetuity, feels less bad to be spending money on Mogstation that way, maybe?

It's a live service game and not a GoFundMe so I don't particularly care if they declare where it's going down to the last cent, clearly not towards glamour or getting the latest races up to snuff though lmao

Exactly. I'm just sort of tired of the haughty attitude people get when thinking that by them dumping hundreds on the mogstation means SE is going to bestow Yoshi P with a comically large blank check. We've never been told anything more than that the Mogstation has helped FFXIV funding in the past.

The only thing holding the budget for FFXIV is SE, and its their call on what profits can go back into it.
