The games popularity only increased because Blizzard ruined there game with Shadowlands. Once Blizzard drops there next expansion most of this huge influx of players will flock back.
This games surge of popularity pretty much came from youtube and twitch not good design philosophy.

This game has had popularity long before last year. It'd be really nice if people could stop taking what I said out of context. Yes the game did surge last year but the game has been surging every year before last year as well and that is what I was referring to. Last year is not the one and only time in the last ten years this game has been around that it has surged. And those previous times which had nothing to do with Asmon, covid, or youtube in general was from good design philosophy with the original wave of FFXIV players. Could we please top taking what I said out of context and acting as if last year is the only year this game has ever had a popularity surge, please? I'd greatly appreciate if people would stop trying to twist and spin what I said.

It's both. The popularity of twitch AND good game philosophy. If the game didn't have good game philosophy, then Twitch wouldn't give it the hype it has. Case in point. Twitch popularity = good game philosophy. Your head games won't work here. Nice try though.

This isn't nearly so true (or, so tightly correlative) as you make it out to be, especially in regard to a game's long-term health.

Hate to burst your bubble but it's very true. Streamers wouldn't be coming to game otherwise, they would find something else to play. But go on, tell me more about how it's not true. This hate take has my interest peaked since the last couple posts seem to suggest that the only reason anyone likes FFXIV is because they hate WoW.

This games large growth is soley because of people overly gushing of the game on twitch and youtube and acting as if something like this had never been done before.
You heard it hear folks! This just in! People are NOT allowed to take breaks from the game! If they do, it makes it a BAD GAME PHILOSOPHY! A GOOD GAME KEEPS PEOPLE ADDICTED AND GLUED TO THEIR CHAIR AWAY FROM REAL LIFE!!! It's not like the producer asks the fans to take breaks or anything, nooo not at all!!!

I look forward to more time-gated grind to keep us "occupied" and "happy".

Not true at all, streamers go where the money is. If something is popular and getting views streamers will make content on it regardless if they are actually interested or not. There are also collaboration streams, sponsorships ect. Don't you find it odd that most people that have been playing the game since launch did not get a chance to interview Yoshi P, but popular streamers just starting the game did? It is all for profit in the end.

Absolutely wrong and it shows superficial knowledge of the Twitch game, ie only looking at a select few. I could say that most (big) streamers I tend to watch and like will play a game IF they've got an interest in it to begin with, money follows. People are not stupid, and transparency goes a long way on the platform to begin with and build a solid, quality viewership (like most businesses you might say).

Oh really? Remember New World? Several hundreds of thousands of viewers on Twitch, roughly 1 million concurrent players online at the same time. What happened to that game?

    Oh right :

    https://steamcharts.com/app/1063730

39k players, all time peak 900k. Currently 1.7k viewers on Twitch. LOL. Clearly despite being so popular on Twitch at one point it never managed to break 1 million players (which FFXIV already has despite historically having very little Twitch viewership, at it's peak of viewership in last Summer it only managed a fraction of what New World achieved at it's peak) and is now nearly completely dead. What does this information tell you?
