    That's not how NFTs work. A link to the item and history of ownership exists on the blockchain, not the item itself.

    You would have proof that you own the digital item linked at:
    <www.ffxiv.nft/I_bought_an_NFT_and_all_I_got_was_this_stupid_T-shirt>

    If the web host went down, your NFT is gone. If the web host changes the link, your NFT changes.

    This is only true for some NFT's. There are some NFT's that exist on the web server with authentication on the blockchain as you say. This is done because of the space on the blockchain that is taken up. However, this is not the case for all NFT's and varies on the chain the NFT was created on.
