Keep NFT out of FF14

Many of us don't just wanna keep FF14 safe from NFT's, we don't wanna see SQEX use the destructive little things at all!

The wording of the statement suggests that such things are coming despite the pushback. Behind closed doors, there's a good chance that contracts have been signed and they'll be showing up one way or another simply because it is no longer feasible for the company to backtrack on any promises made.

I'm asking them to not actively harm the planet with their greed as if the Shinra Electric Power Company broke the fourth wall. I'm asking them to make games for players who play to have fun, air quotes unnecessary, because by the president's own words they are the majority of the players of their games. I'm asking them to remember all their failed attempts to milk the consumer past the base price of their games and the reputation it's earned them.

Then, I'll say something that might cause an outrage but : NFTs are not linked to crypto (and thus, ecological harm) by anything other than the context. NFTs are linked to blockchains, which are to simplify, similar to the internet, so they're not more harmful than any other network. In fact, there exist many project centered around blockchains that aim to improve energy consumption, optimization, etc.

And NFTs are not linked to cryptos in their usage either, because a NFT is simply a token, and can be pretty much anything, and transactions around them can be made in normal currencies as well. In particular, as I said before, it is used in the building industry to sign BIMs, building models to simplify, and enable more horizontality in projects between several actors.

The president said his goal is to have players who contribute be able to profit off it, since players who play to have fun, the vast majority indeed, can choose to buy things from them. That's a choice, as the other cash shop gears we have for example.

I'm not pro NFT in FFXIV, I really don't care tbh. I'm just trying to show you it's not as bad as you think and maybe it could be profitable. I'm asking you to stop panicking, we don't know the modalities of Square using NFTs, or anything really.

I hear you, you don't want to sit idle in case what they plan is shitty. It's good to remind them that they're being watched by their clients and they should take their vision in account. But NFTs are not evil, they're just a new tech that's hard to apprehend and that is mostly used to scam people off right now. It doesn't mean it's their only usage.

Even a cursory Google search on the environmental impact of NFTs completely contradicts your claims, so I have zero interest in the "profits" for Square-Enix to implement them. And if you think Square-Enix is going benevolently allow "players who contribute" free usage of their IPs, I have a bridge I'd like to sell you. Or maybe a .jpg of a bridge would be more to your taste? That .jpg of a bridge would be unique and only ever belong to you, I totally promise. You can even pretend to rename the bridge if you want. What a steal!

It doesn't require panic to see that Square-Enix has become far more interested in coming up with increasingly shady business practices to squeeze players of every penny they can, instead of making games that sell themselves on quality and--dare I say it--fun.

FFXIV is not immune to cash-grabbing as it is. They claim that certain issues prevent more free inventory space as they continue to bloat your bags with more and more items--but that issue magically disappears if you pay monthly for extra retainers. Their housing system forces owners to maintain their sub or lose their house, despite initial promises that XIV would never use such a cheap tactic. (They "value the player's time" only as long as the player is shelling out for it.) Hrothgar players--without any prior warnings--still have to buy a Fantasia for a haircut because the devs lazily welded the Hroth faces to the hairstyles, and they still show no signs of giving a fig about fixing it. Ad nauseum.

So if they kick off NFTs in the Mogstation with a .jpg of commemorative crocodile tears by the director, I won't be surprised to hear about it.

So basically, you took a neutral person, antagonized him by pretending he's something he did say he despise, made "your own research" for 3 minutes to contradict someone that had arguments, and repeated ad neauseam your same old speech when confronted to new arguments. Seems that the carbon footprint issue is caused by tying NFT's to cryptocurrency which requires far too much power to "mine"
