With how the whole NFT in the gaming space discussion is going I can't do anything but want to bang my head against a wall.
There is literally nothing positive about NFTs in the gaming space and it offer zero benefits that can't be achieved normally.

The only people outside of the companies who are pushing for this BS are the people who are already trapped in the NFT scheme.
Seeing their fake enthusiasm every time a new blockchain game is announced is really stomach turning because they don't care about the games themselves they only care about if it makes them money or not.
Like seriously if I hear somebody mention "blockchain technology enables to port gaming items from 1 game to another" I'll scream. It's literally the dumbest point I've heard in ages and it clearly shows that people have no idea about game development and how very much unlikely this is given the impossible extra work developers would have to do in order to support anything even remotely similar. (Especially across franchises with different gameplay/aesthetics/ game engines).

    Sorry for rambling.

As much as I hate NFTs I don't have the optimism after Lootboxes and other microtransactions that these won't be a part of the gaming space. Right now multiple companies are trying to push it and the big players like1 EA/Ubisoft/Square can easily spend money on trying to implement something without going bankcrupt.
All it takes is for 1 company to implement successfully and make some money with it and that's it. It'll be a constant companion from there on. Luckily so far the attempts we've seen failed and if that keeps going we have a chance of at least a few years of radio silence before they try to push it again.
But in all honesty I don't have high hopes for that.

Will NFTs make their way into FF14? Maybe? Like people said Yoshi P and his team most likely won't be able to deny orders from the top even if they don't want to.
But I wonder with all the negative connotations in regards to NFTs if the attempt in making money is really worth the negative press attached to FF14 after a 10 year journey of rebuilding the goodwill of players after the disaster that has been 1.0
I want to believe that the head of SE is aware of that.

If it really comes down to an implementation of NFTs in FF14 I hope there will be a mass exodus of players because there is no other way to make an impact. Sure we can complain on the forum as much as we want or go to twitter and other social media sites. But if it doesn't affect the bottom line we might as well just say nothing.
Personally I'll unsubscribe the moment any kind of NFT implementation into FF is announced and I hope a lot of other people will do as well.

If an interaction with the cash shop becomes mandatory in any shape or form, I'm out.
I'm already ignoring any mmorpgs that doesn't offer a subscription option, where said option allows me to completely ignore the cash shop.

It's a pretty good explanation, methinks.
I'm starting to understand now. Thanks!

I'm a bit lost. Has there been any official info about NFTs going to be used in FFXIV? How will they be used?
I mean, I want to get angry too, but I need to know the facts first.

Not in FF14 itself, but the wording in the CEO's statement and disregard of concerns over NFT's as reactionary has led many people to voice their concerns ahead of time. For right now we don't know if NFTs will ever come to FF14. And for that matter they very well might not given how FF14 is sold on Steam and Steam has anti-NFT policies in place that require no small amount of hoop jumping to get around. However it is not far-fetched to assume that any moderate success with NFTs in other SE owned games would see a push for them to be added to FF14.

Aah, I see. Thank you for explaining!

I'm not a fan of SE outside FFXIV (and I'm certainly not planning to buy their €80 remakes for pc), so I can't say I'm surprised. For now, I'll be cautious and observe what they plan to do with NFTs, if they end up doing anything at all.

Am I the only person who doesnt understand what an NFT is and how it will be added to the game? From what I understand its a crypto currency but why is it bad if you get multiple ways to pay for the game?

NFT is a pic (for example a pic of yshtola) with an attachment or whatever that proves that you are the owner of that said thing, not the copyrights though if that isn't explicitly said you don't own that. Then you sell it to the next person for a bit more and it goes higher and higher and higher.

But what creators actually do is selling it to a friend for like 50 dollars and that friend sells it to another friend for like 200 and then to another one for 1000 so the money never leaves the friend circle. Until someone from outside buys into it at which point you make thousands of dollars in net profit and the NFT becomes a dangerous gamble and whoever will hold it last is the one that loses basically all their money and is stuck with a worthless pic.

So basically it is a scam, plain old and simple. Artificial price inflation like you see on the stockmarket sometimes. Until it crashes down and leaves a bunch of people ruined.

And a NFT is no currency, it is like a stockmarket share. You can sell it maybe but you can't buy any shit with it at all. Just that there is no regulated market behind it or anything, if nobody buys your shitty yshtola pic you sit on a yshtola pic you paid 10k dollars for, grats.

But why would somebody pay 1K for a silly digital picture?
I can understand people paying quite a lot for a real picture drawn or painted on canvas by a famous person but to be paying the same for just something digital?

I also didn't knew what NFT was, I searched it up and you can buy a bunch of (most even look bad) pictures for so much money. Not even sure what the point of it is

Letter from the Producer LIVE Part IX Q&A Summary (10/30/2013)
Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.

Bragging rights I guess. Just to say that they have it.
