    Greetings fellow Eorzean,

    We apologize for the inconvenience. We would like you to try some of the following suggestions as the DirectX errors can stem from Windows related issues, corrupt files, confliction programs etc:

    ■ Toggle between Windowed mode and Full Screen mode
    Programs → SQUARE ENIX → FINAL FANTASY XIV → Launch FINAL FANTASY XIV Config
    Configuration Button → Screen Settings Tab → Change settings in Screen Mode
    It is possible that changing the screen mode will allow the program to run properly.

    ■ Lower the resolution
    From the FINAL FANTASY XIV Config and the in-game config menu, you can change settings to reduce graphical processes, such as shadows and texture quality.

    ■ Update graphics drivers
    If the graphics drivers are outdated, the game may not run properly.
    If using a commercial computer, check the help manual when updating.
    If using a home-built computer, update the relevant drivers for your graphics card, typically found on the manufacturer's website.

    ■ Disable/uninstall security programs and firewalls for the game program
    There is a possibility that security programs and firewalls are interfering with the game program. Please disable these programs or add FINAL FANTASY XIV as an exception before attempting to run FINAL FANTASY XIV. Especially following installation or version updates, game files may be targeted by these functions.

    ■ Close any running applications/Clean Boot
    Because other applications may interfere with your installation, close all other running apps before running the installation file. You can perform a clean boot to ensure no other background programs are interfering with the installation by doing the following:

    - Open the Task Manager and select the 'Start Up' Tab. Disable everything here and restart the PC.

    ■ Remove peripheral devices to create a simpler environment for the program to run
    Remove any peripheral USB devices (gamepads, cameras, microphones, headsets, etc.) to create a more stable, simple environment for your computer to run the program. If the situation improves, update the driver software for the removed devices. Consult the help manual of your peripheral device for instructions on updating the drivers or related software.

    ■ Reinstall FINAL FANTASY XIV
    If the installed data has been corrupted, the issue may be resolved by re-installing the program.

    If you have played before, make sure to delete the 'Final Fantasy XIV' folder in the 'My Documents' → 'My Games' folder. You can re-download the Windows game client at the following link: http://www.finalfantasyxiv.com/playersdownload/na. Steam users should re-install from their Steam Library.

    As for your system specifications, while the 2nd Gen Intel i7 may be suitable for the game based on the system requirements, compatibility issues may arise with Windows and various programs as the processor itself is already 9 generations old. It might be a good idea to look into a system upgrade as a friendly recommendation to avoid alternative issues that can result from using older hardware.

    We hope this information is helpful.

    This is not a new issue, apparently, considering the many threads I see on this subject.

    Why is it I can't find an acknowledgement from SE anywhere, let alone any proposed fix/solution? I still try to play the game every day, but the crashes make it so so annoying, especially because I still run into long queues to log back in each time.

    Another DirectX11 crash just occurred. I waited through a queue of 2k+ to login and play today, Sunday afternoon. I finally made it in, stayed in Ul'dah, looked through my retainers, sent them on new ventures, and was about to do some materia melding onto a new set of crafter gear I'd just obtained for my character.

    Boum! The DX11 Primal strikes again. The game crashes with its customary DX11 error dialog. I hurriedly re-started the launcher, logged back into the server, and now I get this dreaded response:

    <Sigh> Another wasted afternoon trying to play FFXIV.

    Since the patch dropped, I'm getting a lot more crashes than I used to. It's particularly infuriating when it happens the MOMENT that I accept a duty and it begins to load me in. Not only did I wait through the queue to get in the game and the duty finder queue... but now I have to wait through a 1k+ queue to get back into the game, only to find I've been kicked from the dungeon for being offline. Awesome. So, on top of being plagued with the sound distortion since EW launched, now I have to clench up every time I queue in duty finder for fear of DX taking a running leap off a short pier. This has been the absolute worst expansion for me, bug-wise. I can't catch a break.

    Ever since experiencing the FFXIV DirectX11/DirectX9 crashes, I have done the following:

    1. Checked and updated all my drivers - all devices, including GPU card, which I keep updated on a very regular basis;
    2. Re-installed Windows 10 - clean install, none of the old files saved;
    3. Re-installed FFXIV, from an internal drive to my OS C:/drive;
    4. Toggled between Windowed and Full Screen mode;
    5. Lowered resolution settings;
    6. Stopped all other applications while running FFXIV;
    7. Eliminated all startup programs;
    8. In general, provide a clean environment for FFXIV to run on.

    Yet there are no changes. The crashes keep coming, randomly. When I run around in game, when I'm in the open world, when I'm in an instance, grouped with other players, when I'm in a Trust dungeon; when I work with my retainers, browse a vendor's, collectable appraiser's, scrip exchange window, etc., etc. There's no rhyme or reason to when or why the game crashes. Sometimes it just disappears from my screen and I'm dumped to the desktop. Sometimes it just hangs, I can't do anything but do a hard restart of my PC. More often than not, I'll get the DX error dialog that I posted or a variation thereof.

    And, lastly, I do not experience any of this with all the other games I have installed and play on this machine. Only with FFXIV.
