They already do a version of this.Sure. Only if they also remove hair entirely from gear that clips too. Like the Uraeus coat. Maybe some folks like the bald high collar look, so we should force it on everyone for specific pieces of gear.
Removing character customization because it interferes with the design of the gear is fine, right?
They chop off long hair if you wear certain hats, hairstyles have a hat hair model for this reason ... cause not every hairstyle easily works for every hat they want to make.
Hair=head stuff, tails=body stuff.
If I didn't want to see my tail or ears, I'd play a Hyur.
I hope they fix this.

No thank you. If they're so worried about clipping, animate a tail that fits under the cloak. Seriously. Don't be lazy and just lop the thing off. Make actual armor that makes sense. How?
How do WE know this? I'm only playing Viera to wait for Hrothgals, so I didn't notice this change until this thread ... up until now they NEVER hide the tail unless a top gear had a tail already. This is completely new and something they have never done before to gear like this. As someone who hated seeing capes for jobs I like because my Miqote tail would break all immersion with it's clipping, I LOVE this new direction for what it means for tailed races in the future.
So how about this, until they make a show/ hide tail option they hide the tails when it makes sense and expand the library of capes that don't have tails clipping through for those who want that look?
And thats not what they're saying.
They're saying make it so you equip a -chest- armor deletes your hair. All of it. Not just the bits that headgear does already. But the ENTIRE bit of your hair. You're now bald because you decided to put on a chestpiece that had high shoulderpads.
Assuming they cannot simply add a new character customisation data piece to manually control tail hide/show, this seems to be their attempt to respond to people asking for the option to hide tails when they clip through capes. It's clearly an inbuilt switch they can turn on for chest pieces and they've decided to turn it on for these.
It's inevitably going to make some people unhappy, but they tried.
On the subject of Miqo'te ears, I really don't understand the trend towards hiding the ears entirely. They have the systems in place from ARR to have the ears fully visible and poking through the hat and it looks really cute. I don't know why it isn't being used any more.
Ear socks have always been very hit-and-miss and often fail to be shaped anything like the ears they're meant to be covering. I don't understand how they're so hard to get right when the ears are a fixed size and shape.
Then you can deal with the gear that hides your ears and tail by default, and just not use it. Simple as, problem solved, we both go our own ways.I don't need to sell on you anything. If you don't want a tail, don't play miqo'te, au ra, or hrothgar. It's literally that simple.
Ultimately removing tails is a terrible band-aid fix for the real problem, which is the fact that SE designs armor for hyur despite the fact the majority of their playerbase plays characters with tails. I've accepted there will be clipping because they won't do this, but legitimately removing character customization options is a really, really bad choice for a game like this.
I dislike calling devs of any game lazy because I know there's a lot of work that goes into this, but it's hard not to see this as the laziest solution to an entirely self-inflicted problem. Imagine if their solution for hair clipping was to just remove the hair of everyone who wore the chestpiece. A bit extreme, but there's not much difference.
This really isn't that complicated. If you want a hyur, play a hyur. Don't force everyone else to look like hyur too.
One is a choice you can make that affects you. The second affects everyone who uses that armor regardless of the race selection they made.
I'm not forcing anyone to look like anything by asking for a personal gear toggle to hide my own tail.
If you're talking about the Moonward gear though... it really isn't that complicated. You have every other cape in the game. Go wear one of those and run around merrily with your tail poked clear through.
If you want a toggle that's fine. Until it's implemented, don't force your choices on everyone else.
It's not that much to want the race to look like it does in character selection. You're advocating that some armor should make your character's base customization look different simply because you want it to. I'm saying my character should look like I customized them. It's just literally how the race looks and arbitrarily removing features is the wrong decision.
If you want to fix clipping, advocate for armors designed with racial features in mind. Removing the tail is not an actual solution to that problem at all.
