Doesn't WoW do this anyway ?
Some do, some don't, that's the thing. The generalize style of this system essentially makes a clone of your character while excluding your guild/server ties, this is why it depends on how it's made, because for example:

    http://lodestone.finalfantasyxiv.com...umaki&cms=&cw=

Unless you take a detailed profile, there's a good possibility even knowing "it's a lalafell" won't really do much for you. That's why it heavily depends on the system in place, since there's really no consequence unless someone is adamant enough to make a player warning thread on your server forum (if it shows your server name), but if they go the route of "anonymity" and just go the clone route, as exampled it can be tough which is exactly why people would act that way.

I honestly wish they would just stick with an in-world content finder only.. No other servers.
I don't like the thought of partying with people I'll never see again. I'd run the risk of meeting someone I like and want to be friends with, then not being able to play the game with them. That's just depressing.

IF I used it I wouldn't really talk to anyone because of the reasons above.
But it's not likely I'd use such a thing, unless there was a "search my server only" option for finding members.

It would be a shame if they didn't allow it to work just within your own server if you choose.

Edit: I suppose what I really want is a convenient/automatic? group finder for my own server. I don't even want to be teleported automatically to the instance (sigheverythingisinstanced ; ; ), I'd rather have to travel there and enjoy the world as I head off to my adventure.)

I stopped reading right here, now I KNOW you are just full of Sh&^T

Content finder is a great idea....I have 6 linkshells and STILL can rarely get anyone to do anything other than sit around town.

The purpose is to get other bored players from all servers together so they can you know, have fun.

Totally agree with this. Besides LS events, the most fun I ever had was in random groups, meeting tons of interesting, fun people, and even the unfortunate jerk at times. lol Even when things went wrong I was having fun more often than not.

Maybe we Lalafells just have more fun. ;3 lol

It's the freedom to have random fun that makes MMO's so appealing to me, As long as i can go out and explore and just do what ever comes to mind I'm happy. Never know what shiny treasures await you at the end of a corridor, Maybe even monsters!

On a more on topic note, I love the idea of a content finder but because FF has always seemed like more of a social game i believe if one is to be added it should be limited to your own server so that any friends you happen to make you can continue to play with. WoW's dungeon finder is great cause the game never really seem like one where i should be making friends.. All seemed to be about the progression. I love the ppl ya meet in FFXI and FFXIV, mostly friendly but get the odd person that doesn't wanna play nice but that's what makes it fun.

Myself and many others are eagerly awaiting content finder. Pooling from more than one server expands the available amount of people and I think being able to log in the game at my leisure and quickly find a group and actually play the game easily takes precedence over anything else. As was stated this helps out smaller groups more than anything, you will still want a group of people you can rely on for tougher fights and especially for any large-scale content that requires more than one party.

I do hope we get the ability to add cross-server people to our friend lists, linkshells, and maybe even invite them to transfer to our server at some point.

Myself and many others are dreading the arrival of a content finder. Being forced to use a system because its the easy route which majority will take, reducing servers to barren dead wastelands where everyone just afk in town while in que.
Migth as well play a single player game since any interaction with other players is moot and once grouped up with randoms inside the dungeon you'd be lucky if anyone responds to a "Hello", social ethics and bahviour goes out the window for many players when you are grouped up with complete strangers who you are unlikely to ever see again.

If this is the route they plan to take, they might just as well remove any open world zones and replace it with lobbies and hubs and get pretty much the same result.
So I'm against cross server content finder, todays MMOs feels lifeless enough as is, we don't need even more reasons for players to become asocial and foster the forever alone guy soloing mentality, and this is any loot issues put aside.

    - There is no different between strangers from other server and your current server, they are strangers.

    - There is also no reason social ethics and behavious will goes out of the window for many players, people acts the way they do to strangers whether they are from other or your current server, if people were douches, they will stay douches. People don't just become a douche.

    - How in the world does this foster the forever alone guy soloing mentality when the whole reason to queue for content finder is to play with another people because apparently this forever alone guy's server arent able to provide that? Nobody would be using cross server finder if there were plenty of things going on at the server, but that isn't the way it is.

Disagree. FFXIV servers are like small towns. If you do something worthy of not in your small town, people will tell people, even if they don't know you personally. If you go one of the other ten small towns around the world and do something worthy of note, that small town might find out about it, but chances are no one you regularly speak to will ever know.

It's all about consequences. If I'm from another server and am tanking Baat with your dungeon finder group, and MPK everyone in the party right before he dies (with my best friend's assistance), leave you all dead, kick you from the party, pop the chests and leave, what are you gonna do? Get on the forums and complain? lulz. Maybe 10 people from my actual server will notice.

Agreed on this one, partially. It's not so much a result of there not being enough to do, imo. In fact, the more things there are, the less people will be doing the thing you need (as many will be doing the plethora ofother things). The problem is more that there's no reason for anyone to keep doing the limited number of things there are.
