I don't remember an single queue lasting an hour or more in SHB on Gilgamesh. It was actually very smooth, and the surge of players only happened recently making getting hardware extremely difficult. The increase in population has actually been very gradual until earlier this year which was completely unanticipated by their projection for when they were going to upgrade hardware. We were warned multiple times this was going to happen.
I'm really very sorry but saying "remote desktop to your PC at home while you're at work, log yourself in AND hope it doesn't boot you" is... ridiculous.

That said, I don't blame square at all. Population explosion combined with new expansion and chip shortage. I get it. But what you're describing is absolutely not sensible solution in the slightest and we really shouldn't be telling people that they need to potentially break rules at work just to log into a video game.
