I can.
I have all 3 days, and will get a 4th before Official Release.
I Have to sit in a line and wait my turn for about an hour, but I still get to play.
Seriously
Apple metaphor I think is being used a bit flawed here, but I do love me some metaphors.
So lets try it as such-
You paid for 5 apples organic, I gave you 5 apples non-organic, and maybe a few dirty too. I know I did you wrong so I give you 5 more apples (which we hope are organic).
Unless you're 12 and you've been saving your lunch money for weeks to pay for this. whining over a frigging week is silly! If I pay you to bring me 5 apples tomorrow and you don't bring them, but then the day after that you come and give me "5 free apples in compensation":
It is NOT free.
It's what I've already paid for and you failed to deliver on the agreed terms.
Please do not embelish facts and reality with pleasant sounding words.
The correct way to make the announcement would have been "We are reimbursing you 7 days of playtime from your subscription. We might reimburse more days at a later date if the problem persists".
Ppl here don't read EULAs. You pay for a pass to access SE servers. Those servers aren't guaranteed to be available all the time. They don't even have to give 7 free days if they don't want to.
This is 100% true. The only motivation they have to add additional time to your account is in order to maintain a positive relationship with customers.
I swear, people are just going out of their way to be angry. Look, I don't care if you want to think of it as "free" or not. If you buy a bottle of shampoo and it says you're getting 30% more free, do you complain to the cashier that actually you're paying for the whole bottle and so you didn't actually get anything free? As it stands, you paid for 30 days, you will get 37 days. So far, 4 of those days it has been difficult and/or impossible for you to play. They've said they will reassess and may give additional game time. You can say they're giving you what you paid for and it's not free. That's fair enough. But, at least thus far, they are giving you what you paid for. When you can't play and they're not giving you additional game time to compensate, you can whinge away. Until then, suck it up, buttercup. If you can't deal with the queues and disconnects, just don't play and come back when it's been resolved.
Your right, It's not that hard to understand. Think about it. Rather than 30 days that you normally are subscribe for this month you get 37 days this month, before it's time to renew your subscription. Or maybe you paid for a 90 day. That would be 90+7 before you'd have to renew. It doesn't take rocket science. So take those apples and chew on it.I did not pay for early access. I paid my monthly sub. I have not been able to play the game I bought access to with my monthly sub. 2002 error are preventing people from accessing the game as a whole, not just EW.
Right now, yes, I am still receiving 3 free apples. But please tell me you are not naive enough to believe the problem will be fixed in the next 3 days. Save this post and quote me on it if it happens.
If I pay for 7 days of playtime to get 7 days worth of playtime and got 0 hours of playtime due to a failure on SE's part and then they add 7 days of playtime at a later date, it's NOT FREE. It's what I paid for and they didn't provide at the time I paid for it.
It's really not that hard to understand. If apples are too complex think about oranges.
To add onto this. You're not reimbursed for server downtime so there's already a precedent of what you're actually paying for.

Its right there in the tos that you signed, se said there would be delays and to expect it. Everything they did was legal and you weren't cheated, so yeah you got free time but they didn't have to give you it.

I don't think there's really a good metaphor for this situation, but my version would be:
I am running a successful apple-a-day service, and I just started offering a new type of apple. As a result the service has surged in popularity so much that I don't have enough delivery trucks to keep up with the demand. For the past 3 days, some people have had to wait until late in the day to get their apples while others have not yet gotten their apples. Realizing this, I sent a message saying that I am working on the problem as best I can. I will give every single customer a bonus 7 days worth of apples, whether that's intended to make up for the frustration of late apples, or to reimburse the 3 days of lost apples so far (possibly more in future, but for now I am playing it more than safe by giving 7 and will amend that as the situation warrants).
Now I have these yahoos on the forums complaining that my promise of 7 apples doesn't make up for their 3 lost apples.
But 7 + 3 apples = 15 apples and a Half Life 3 release date, so I think I got you there!I don't think there's really a good metaphor for this situation, but my version would be:

Either metaphor we're on the same page though, there is currently a net gain of apples lol.
