If nothing else I do agree with the title at face value at least, if just because gil sinks don't really work. People who are good and effective at making gil will just make more. No one's going to stop after buying whatever ten billion gil clown car they add in next and go "Well, I bought the expensive thing, guess I've finished Hit Game Final Fantasy Fourteen" and then stop earning millions upon millions of gil each week. They're just going to be right back where they were by the end of the month. And sadly increasing costs of things, like say teleportation, isn't an especially great response to a disproportionately small number of users being disproportionately wealthy because that can hurt the regular users. And since the goal is to get rid of the gil, rather than encourage them to spend it on the market board, there isn't really any great solution because the people who give a shit about earning gil will always find the next big trick to it. They'll always be earning that gil. Thus meaning square will always be needing to find new money sinks. It's a race they can't possibly win.
