I don't speak on the popularity of WoW stuff, as there are far too many variables at play there. Be it race/ class accessibility and compatibility or faction choices or racial mata or when a race was added/ how long it's been the only option for w/e or just how long they've been in the game. On top of that, it's got like 100 races and most of them don't come close to the top ones as they run with the "Shrek like charm" of the game so you end up with a whole lot of things that don't stand out. WoW is its own special bubble of f**ery as to why things are the way they are with it, I prefer to use games with more clear variables.
Like, I've seen WoW players say stuff like "Dwarf /Priest were the only ones with mass dispel, so the ally were overpowered in raids!/ If you wanted to be a Druid in the Horde, you had to be a Cow". All that kinda stuff effects numbers ... and the Horde was still basically been overtaken by Blood Elf girls when they were added (added cause the devs wanted to increase the Horde's numbers. Everyone in WoW knows Pretty is Popular).
WoW isn't the end all to MMO's, there are ones that treat race like FF14 does, in that it's purely cosmetic. GW2 is great to look at as any race can be anything, there's no boon to picking w/e you want, the game only has a few races, never added a new one, and it's been out for as long as FF14.
Game like ESO? Apparently, no good as people WILL level a race just because of racial passives for a class meta.
Base Tera? Race meant nothing, Rock dudes/ the Semi-Rock-Demons race/ Small fat furry dudes were not popular ... yet the lil girl race is legit what kept that game going alone.
I have repeatedly pointed out that Charr males are popular in GW2. The whole point of looking at these things is looking at the females of these races and how often they're played compared to males. Every example that poster gave had females of the race come in at something between 15-29% of the males, which is pretty important for this topic (Hrothgals).Same with Charr, even if female Charr is the least played race/gender combo, all their 5 races are rather balanced in popularity.
We already know how popular Hrothgar are in FF14 (not popular. They're doing decent for alt-Roe with no hair options and a hunchback though IMO), so making a female without some good sexual dimorphism seems like it could lead to exactly the same gender ratios as those others ... and in this case that's "less than half of Femroe".
Wut?If anything, XIV is the odd one out where it's "smol kawaii waifu or nothing" and that's precisely why they wanted to add more diversity with niche races
There are 4 small females (Lala/ Femra/ Miqote/ Middie) and 4 tall females (Highlander/ Elezen/ Viera/ Femroe). There are more options to the game than "smoll waifu", people just don't play them outside Viera (More popular than the other 3 tall options combined).
I've been calling those races "monster races" this whole time, it's the other person trying to say furries like em regardless. (I don't count Khajiit as anything appealing, everything in ESO looks ugly and unnerving to me including the humans)Also, all those races are genuine "monster" races, not "furries" like Hrothgar and Khajiit are. A female furry would be popular among furries, but trying to cater a furry to "normies" defeats the purpose of a furry race at all - it's like offering a vegan burger in your menu, but it still contains real meat because most of your customers eat meat, why promote it as a 'vegan' burger then? because it has extra lettuce?![]()
As for why SE would skip out on the "Veggie burger" or w/e? IDK, maybe cause they clearly see how aggressively this fanbase ignores females that are "too" different and don't want to risk another Femroe. Maybe it's because they're Japanese and JPN has a long history of doing that with females for furry races. Maybe when looking at FF11 for Reaper inspiration they thought "Wow, we could prob get a fat chunk of Miqote girls to play something like Mithra ... they might like that!".
IDK, but I see no reason to show art of them looking like that if not to indicate that that's what we're getting personally. Been telling people for over a year to prep themselves because ... y'all seem to think Femra was an accident and not a feature. Devs showed us back in HW that they're more than willing to make genders not "match". Feels foolish to think they wont take note of the data they have at hand on play rates and popularity.

Honestly, AS A CATGIRL, I say we add every race's ears as a costume item. So that if people want to play a hyur with pointy ears they can, or a miqo'te/au ra with no tail they can.
People are gonna wear the cait sith ears, then why not let me wear human ears on my catgirl :P
(also add the garlean eye)
*PRAYING HARDER*
~sigh~
Apologies for double post, but it's new-post-worthy :>
So to kind of follow up my realization that this image is basically a bald version of my miqo'te, I decided to do a little test to see how-
YEEEIIIUUGH!!~~
NOPE NUH-UH GROSS GROSS GROSS!
And then I decided to draw how the male and female hrothgar SHOULD compare.
I used the roe-female as a base, and gave her more curves from there.
I used the femroe hand-on-hip /cpose to match the hrothgar's pose. I didn't draw the hunch (because I'm bad at drawing hunches, foreshortening is hard ok?), but I would really like for the female hrothgar to have a few hunched /cposes to allow a bestial feel. (I would like to headcanon the Lost female hrothgars as queens who failed and lost their drones, or entirely rogue female hrothgars, so they would be a bit more feral and scary than the helion females, who could be more regal.)
I kind of want to draw the 4 face types and some "hair"styles now '3' (I really do like the idea that the females don't naturally grow hair/manes like the males do, but since hairstyles are a major way of character customization in games they DO have to have something to replace it, and I don't think there's anything else that our human brains could pay attention to that isn't at least an approximation of hair, so headdresses, and veils it is! Like I scratched onto the picture, the hairstyles that we earn can be considered wigs for fairness sake.)

Sorry, Roda. The second image is too beast-like for a beastman race. Shave her down, give her more of a Kawaii-Waifu aesthetic and make her super petite yet tall. The only thing that can stay are the cat ears. And I guess the eyes or something. /s
Edit; Also amazing artwork btw.

Yes! We need big strong cat women in this game.
....for the Lore of course.
The menacing aura of every Lalafell.
Is this an echo chamber?
