sure we have 2b boots,BLM pvp boots and reindeer costume that twist and crush your feet to fit but for foot wear in this game to 100% match your skin tone regardless seems like much unless they make them black and it just fades into your legs.

No, I do not think any MMO carters to general furries taste, and I actually do think that part of the reason why these races are unpopular is for doing stuff like giving them a hunch or making them look like they have rabies. There's some overlap between monster "fans" and furries, but those are still very different subcultures.

I wasn't trying to start any sort of "Elezen is ugly, they need to be fixed" commentary, I was just musing over the fact that someone who plays a fairly uncommon race, with it's own unique styling that tends to keep people away, would also then take issue with female Hrothgar being implemented in a way that also didn't appeal to the greater masses. Variety is good, and not all races need to be represented with equal amounts of players to be considered "worth it" in my opinion.

There isn't much that is "niche" about the design of my forum character. An elven witch in a black dress. The only thing that is stopping her from being a Viera is their decision to ban them from using hats. I'd probably receive even more unsolicited messages than I do normally if she was a Viera.

In any case I would welcome with open arms if they remade Elezen to be more in line with Viera proportions, just as I would welcome Hrothgar fixes and a female Hrothgar that looks good. Making things that a lot of people like is generally a good thing. In any case the "match" to Ronsos in FFX are tall females with not very bulky arms. They are not bigger than a femroe.

As others have mentioned I just do not see the value in catering to a niche within a niche when there is a far more appealing alternative route they could go as opposed to doubling down on things people do not like.

It's a matter of reading the room and being honest. Most people do not want to play a race that is built around catering to niches. They want to play something that looks good, especially if it is a female character. I think my female elezen character looks ok, at least when she's wearing that dress which works with her...unique proportions. If they release something that looks bad, then they will not succeed in obtaining my fantasia money, or most people's.

Again, I really wasn't trying to insult the appearance of Elezen, but to show that races/provided options don't have to appeal to everyone, and that's OK. Apologies as it was probably worded like poo and came off as more of an attack. Some people sincerely love Elezen as they are, and I'm sure the same would be the case for f.Hroth, even if they had "mangled faces" and kept the stoop (fwiw, I don't think any of the guys have mangled faces, and I honestly have never thought twice about the stoop...unlike the male bunbun posture, oof!).

I get the point that you and others have made, that catering to a niche within a niche may not be the best plan of action, but there will always be a base of people who are looking for something less pretty & perfect. I can only imagine SE has had their work cut out for them trying to find where to draw that line with the females.

Lol you'd be mistaken. Most furries I know play those races, simply because they are beast races. Furries prefer beast races, period. Because we don't want another generic human type character or half human looking hybrid, we want actual beast races. Charr, Khajiit, Worgen, Tauren, Hrothgar, etc etc. If it's a beast race, furries are going to play it. We don't want to play generic humans, short humans, tall humans with pointy ears, humans with cat ears and tails, humans with bunny ears and tails, or giant humans, we want beast races.

Will I be disappointed if they're just slightly larger humans with rounded cat ears like people are asking for? Yeah, definitely.

But it's their decision at the end of the day.

I think, realistically, we're going to get something built off the femroe body. As far as faces? Up in the air, but I really hope it's a spread between the smooth Khajiit faces people have wanted and something a bit more beastly. The opposite of how Male Hrothgar have cute and cool-beasty.

1- I never said "no furries play w/e races". I just that these races are never catered towards furries. Which is true, those races always go for feral or ugly over attractive/ appealing. It's no wonder that those races are so unpopular, not as many people are into the monster look or willing to settle for that even though there are tons of furries out there.

2- If we gonna swing info around, then let's do that. From what I can find (WoW in 2019), of the people who played Worgen only 29% played females. Tauren? Less than 20% of them are female. Charr? Females are the sole reason that's the least popular race in GW2 as the males are actually the 2nd most popular males. Not shocking at all when you look up what furry cowgirls/ wolves/ cats look like and compare them to those games. "Beast races are never popular" is a common belief, and they never try to make them attractive or appealing to the people who like anthros/ furries even though there's an endless supply of art out there showing what these people generally like.

If those WoW or GW2 ratios were to be repeated in FF14 with Hrothgar males in current numbers, the total amount of Female Hrothgar would be less than 1 clan of Femroe ... and Femroe are legit only 1% of active players if you go by the numbers from Lucky of July 2021. That's like .5% of the population ... I'd call that a waste of resources personally.
This is exactly why I get them going the MithraxViera route.

Not being #1 in popularity doesn't mean they're unpopular...? Pandaren are objectively unpopular, only like ~2% of the entire playerbase plays them, but Worgen and Tauren are far from being "unpopular" - they're right behind humans and elves, in a game that has 17 playable races [23, actually, but I don't count the 'copy-paste' ones separately]. Same with Charr, even if female Charr is the least played race/gender combo, all their 5 races are rather balanced in popularity. Don't know much about ESO but from what Google tells me, Khajiit are also very popular, and their race distribution is even more balanced than GW II.

If anything, XIV is the odd one out where it's "smol kawaii waifu or nothing" and that's precisely why they wanted to add more diversity with niche races

Also, all those races are genuine "monster" races, not "furries" like Hrothgar and Khajiit are. A female furry would be popular among furries, but trying to cater a furry to "normies" defeats the purpose of a furry race at all - it's like offering a vegan burger in your menu, but it still contains real meat because most of your customers eat meat, why promote it as a 'vegan' burger then? because it has extra lettuce?

Just like how people thought we were getting Legit Dragon people, but ended up getting Humans with a few scales and a set of horns.
