So, I liked the game Nier on its own. A fine action game with interesting story. But in FFXIV, I did not like. It just didn’t fit and felt cheap for something that was/is fairly major content,Not sure if I would really call it fanservice.
All Final Fantasy games have recurring characters, locations or ideas to a certain extend. Be that Cid or Biggs and Wedge, primals like Alexander, Odin or Bahamut, locations like Ivalice and the Crystal Tower, ideas like Aether or the Warrior of Light.
Those have all been in one or more FF games in the past, the difference is that these are still integral parts to 14s world and story. They're integrated into the universe of this game in a way that makes sense, often with explanations on why they're here and what purpose they fulfill, expanding on what we know about the world.
Can you say the same about most of the collab events? NieR was basically explained with "they came from a different universe", same with the FFXI and the FFXV event, a lot of the other collab events don't even get that much.
This is what I mean when I say I couldn't care less about collab events, they aren't integrated into the lore, they don't tell us anything new about the planet of Hydaelyn, they purely exist to have us go through a 15 minute quest and give us some fanservice rewards.
The actual raid mechanically was fine, but it could have just as easily been any other theme with different models/textures. And hon3stly I feel it should have been..even if it was exploring the Ronkan depths/crashed mana fortress/something.
Just me, but the best collabs have been short and sweet, and fit existing lore fairly well, like Monster Hunter. The dimension hopping Lightning/Noctis/Iroha less interesting…
I like to think the devs realize how poorly accepted the 5.0 raids were comparatively, and have thus decided to make something original for 6.0.

I enjoyed the Nier raids and their story well enough...until the 3rd raid. The 1st and 2nd raid set the finale up with a lot of potential that just...fell flat on its face and caught fire. And the post raid quests did nothing to help that. They made even less sense than the ending of the raids themselves. At the end of the day it was all fanservice first and foremost. It just feels like they stopped trying when it could have been decent. My expectations were high because I know what Nier's story has been capable of in the past. Perhaps I should have tempered those expectations. The bosses, mechanics, gear sets and music were great, but that's about it. It was basically a year long advertisement for Nier which didn't do either game justice. I think it actually turned a lot of people off to the games themselves because of how poorly done it was. That is a huge shame, too. They are great. So, I liked the game Nier on its own. A fine action game with interesting story. But in FFXIV, I did not like. Rather than crossovers with different games altogether I'd rather see stuff from other FF games sorta like the one we got recently.
When FF7R is coming out on PC it'd be cool with a crossover ( gimme Tifa's costume ).
Cloud's sword is already the melee LB, might as well make it an actual weapon too.
Nier Automata is one of my favorite games of all time so I greatly enjoyed getting gear from the raids and it all looked great ( also, we finally got butts because of it rofl. BUTTS IN A FF GAME!? IMPOSSIBHRU! ).
I don't think that it should be some really common thing tho but once an expansion would be cool and they could still blend it into the story especially if it from other FF games, the game already has what is essentially copy pasted stuff from old FF games as it is. Wouldn't be hard to mix it in there.

That being said, the Rathalos is pretty sick looking, it's probably one of my top 5 mounts of the game.
Not if you played VieraWe already had similar booty on our racial gear.
The one cross-over event that I would like to see a change to, is the FF13 stuff. Let me use my Blazefire Saber on Gunbreaker already. Also, untuck my cape out of that belt, we have some kind of rigging for capes now that we didn't have in ARR, please update the outfit.

Agreed; I think Nier would have been much better served if they just used Nier references but actually ditched the actual Nier lore overall.I enjoyed the Nier raids and their story well enough...until the 3rd raid. Like, if there was an advanced industrial Garlemald-esque people of the First with the robot guys, somewhere out in the wasteland.
2B/9S did not actually need to be androids. Survivors of the fallen “empire” could have worked.
It could also have easily been Factory -> Amusement Park -> Tower without need of a crashes space station or a visit to “Tokyo”.
So..yeah. Like both games separately…together, it was a bit of a mess.
